From DZ:

"The Snowstorm Blitz"

Imagine surf fishing for not one but two nights during a blitz of cow-sized bass, many of which are over 50 pounds with a few 60s thrown in. “In your dreams”, “just not possible” you might say. I would say the same thing – only I know better – I lived it. Need a little tease? How about 140 bass landed (most between 30 and 60 pounds) in about six hours of fishing!

The setting: November 1987, just offshore of Block Island a huge school of monster striped bass is on station feeding on the abundant 6-inch sand eels. A Nor'easter roars through the area bringing with it 50 mph winds and a snowstorm that dumps 4-6 inches of snow on the island. When the weather clears the stage is set for some 35-40 surf casters that don't realize just how fortunate they are about to become. But no one could have imagined what would happen in the days after that storm……

Those who attend will re-live this event through a power point presentation that I’ll give on January 31st at the SWE Surf Fishing Day. Hear the stories about those who caught their dream fish – and about others who lost hook-ups that still haunt them to this day. And if that’s not enough - learn the history of the needlefish – the plug that has become synonymous with Block Island.
Hope to see you at the show.

DZ

Saltwater Edge Winter Seminar Series and Conservation Raffle
January 29, 2009
at
Save the Bay Headquarters
Providence, Rhode Island

Whether you are an experienced bonefisherman, or are planning to go soon or dream of going someday… why not spend a cold winter’s night a world away wading a Bahamian flat at the elbow of an expert?

Please join The Saltwater Edge for another event in the Winter Seminar Series featuring Dick Brown, one of the country’s premier authorities on bonefishing. Dick is the author of Fly Fishing for Bonefish and Bonefish Fly Patterns, published by Lyons Press and hailed by many as the definitive works on the species. Today, the two books—which have gone through many printings—are essential reading for both novice and experienced flats fisherman.

A fly fisherman since he was a teen, Dick has stalked bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook, and other tropical saltwater species for over 30 years in the Bahamas, Caribbean, South America, and Florida Keys. He has fished extensively for Atlantic salmon in Canada’s maritime provinces and for trout and steelhead in the American West and Northwest. Dick lives on the north shore of Massachusetts where he chases striped bass, bluefish, and other inshore species in his Jones Brothers center console, About Time.

Dick is an executive board member of the New England Saltwater Fly Rodders and a member of the International Game Fish Association, United Fly Tyers, Trout Unlimited, the Margaree Salmon Association, and Stripers Forever. He spent much of his business career in the computer industry, running worldwide marketing and communications for a Fortune 500 computer firm and as CEO and founder of Brown Wright & Company—a high tech marketing company.

The Saltwater Edge Conservation Raffle has raised over $23,000 for various conservation initiatives since its inception. Proceeds from the Conservation Raffle at this event will go to Save the Bay and their efforts to restore the fish runs that river herring, american shad and other species depend on for survival.

Save the Bay’s new headquarters is located on Narragansett Bay, at 100 Save the Bay Drive in Providence, RI. Appetizers and a cash bar will be provided. Event starts at 6:30pm, program begins at 7:15pm.
