hotrod customizen
i fished w/ a 10' lami super surf w/ 5000 emblem spinning reel w/ 30 lb p pro for fishing the canal ...it cast great but reel seet was to close to the butt end for me. so i had 4in add to butt and rerapped. i got it bach yesterday ,mounted reel and put a loaded 2 3/4oz pp on .i went to my pond [johns pond ] and took a few cast. wow i like it !!!! rod to reel balance much better ,n i get more out of the combo power wise. e-z 100yrd cast no problem....fished for 5 min got no hits . but i looked good .

Sounds good Dave, just watch out for roots on your back cast and you should be okay.
|
Why even try.........

Dave make sure you get the new handle for the Emblem. It is a little larger but not as big at the stratic 8000.

so if you had your way and started over you would get a 11 footer and cut it down to 10.5'? Still deciding on what length to go with.
Don't worry Steve the 6'' less on the OAL length will keep him above root height.

Great, now put it back in the rafters and go back to conventional tackle before some guy from P Town crotchless leather pants proposes to you.

i do
in short .. i like the 10ft but reel seat placement is to short .rod is stout for canal needs and i like the type of guides and guide placement .but overall rod off the rack is un balanced for reel and me.[ also flapface agrees=no help] so i added 4in to butt it made a world of difference........everthing fits and feels right .feels like more power to plug on the cast. paul 11ft is to long for me.????? cant say ..but i'm happy w/ this now.....mike ..yes on that handle ...goerge ..why go to p-town ????theres plenty of those guys in falmouth .but your right about the rod in the rafters

Your my height Dave that is why I asked. Mike at M&D's suggested 10 foot for a midget like me so I may look at 10.5 as a best of both worlds. my conven. canal plugging rods are 11 ft so I am used to a longer rod. George, LOL.

Anytime you change the effective length of the handle you greatly increase the leverage of the rod. This actually helps in many ways including tip speed and being able to load the rod much better. Sounds like a nice improvement to the rod.

I have an 11' that I have the opposite problem, too much butt. I was thinking of cutting of 6" from the bottom but I'm afraid I'll screw up the balance and dynamics of it. Maybe I should sell it and start over again.
