leader LB/Braid LB
I tied about 200 leaders with 50lb mono over the winter, then I just spooled up my reel with 40lb powerpro, as I bought a 4500 size reel and wanted to make sure I had enough line on it.
Should I have used a lighter leader, or will 50lb mono break before 40lb braid if I get hung up?
Please advise.

Braid in perfect condition: I'd think the mono would break first.
But any imperfections or slight abrasions and I'd be concerned about the braid breaking first.
For where you fish, I match my braid and leader strengths and last year the leader broke 4 out 5 times.

I use an uni-knot where I want it to break first. It simply cuts into itself when you apply a lot of constant pressure.
Just bring piece of dowel/broom handle to wrap braid around to tug with. Super line will slice you to the bone. Of course handle of Boga Grip works great, too.
I use 50 lb PP with 40 FC or 40-50 lb mono leaders most of the time.
Tie one up to a tree and do a test: see for yourself.

Also, you can use your knife handle for this as well (helps to have a fixed blade knife with no sharp protrusions on the handle).
