Outboard Motor Rentals ?

Hey guys,
I'm getting back into the boat *thing* cause we ain't got much longer left

So..I was wondering if Anyone knows of a place that rents Out-Board Motors. Out for the summer??? does this even exist? How much to rent one from say: June to September???

I'd like to buy a motor but that probably wont happen, till next season

I'd like a 25, 30 or 35 Hp Motor. (anything between 20 and 35 hp will do)

Max motor capacity is 40hp. and back when this boat was built a 40hp was about the size of todays 75hps

So i think it will handle a 35 without my transom falling off
(seen a 19' bayliners transom crack right down the middle, funny thing was it was a 1996 and only had a 50 hp on it )
Hope that never happens to me....


wondering: what kind of speed will i get out of a 35 hp Motor on this heavy ol' boat ??

As in speed- i mean im Not looking to be one of the Top-Fuel Race boats on ESPN2 or anything- just want to be able to get out of the way of Big boats and stuff

I've never seen O/B for rent, and it would have to be expensive if they did. You're best bet would be to buy a used one, basically as old as you are willing to spend.Check the bargain news.Those smaller motors are usually pretty durable.Run it on a hose, check compression and you should be alright.100 bucks for Seatow wouldn't be a bad idea - you're not going too far out anyway.I had an old 14' Glaspar as a kid, similar to yours.We ran a 33 hp, and the a 50hp on it. The 33 pushed it good, the 50 was borderline too heavy - but we used to ski off both(of course 12 year old kids on 2 ski's ain't too much weight).So, that's my advice FWIW.

Check with Chris at C & L Marine , I don,t know if he has any left the last time I heard there was a huge waiting list, plus I don,t think he had any that small, I had mine 5 years + gave it back to him last week , 90hp, but I,ll bet its gone///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I do think that some shops will lease new motors, never heard of anybody renting them?

Up until last year I used a 15' Seacraft fiberglass runabout with a 1965 Evinrude 75 horse V4. Boat was so fast that I put a stress crack in the hull perpendicular to the keel, under the waterline.
Believe it or not, this was the engine that was sold with this boat in 1965.
Save your money, buy a used engine and don't go too cheap, unless you're as good a mechanic as the rest of us on the site think that we are.
On the other hand, there's something starngely theraputic for me about working on my boat; its a good thing, too.

I can't imaging anyone renting an outboard. The loss is too great. The deposit whould have to be so big as to cover the entire cost. Disputes would be a regular thing....just a bad business idea. Rentals would tend to get beat on.
Buy a used motor and have it checked out or possibly buy a used motor from a dealer , they usually go over them pretty good and might warrenty/service it as well.
a used 35 or 40 should not break the bank.

How about a Lease? that is what i really ment? or Pay to own- pay montly? something like that?


Some-onefrom the RISAA Mail-forum emailed me w/ a older 33 hp johnson- not sure of price yet, if it's under $500 i'll take it...hope so!!


33hp will push my heavy ol' starcraft nice, right?

I would call a few of the outboard suppliers, lately it seems that there is a big push towards HPDI, or 4-stroke motors, this is causing the values of used 2-strokes to fall. I bet you could get a good deal on a used 2-stroke which was traded in on a new motor....It's worth a shot..

I did rent for 5+ years,only up from money was one month which i used up in the end////
It was great $135 a month and all repairs on the motor belonged to the skop.I owned the props and sparkplugs
not new motors, but rebuilts ==I had great luck with being down a total of about 10 days in those years, never blew anything expensive,can,t say that when i owned them////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
