Do you keep your livewell running all the time? (assuming full)
This is my first year really using a livewell and live bait, and I'm curious if you keep the pump running full time when the tank is stocked. I have a RULE pump and was worried about it burning out if on full time. Should I be?
I've been toggling it on and off periodically.

I have an 1100gal. Rule pump that pumps into my 55gal. plastic drum.
Some times I shut mine off and there are times when I do not. I also have a spicket about 3-4" off the bottom on the outside that I use for a drain. Use to empty it with a 5 gal bucket.

If you've got a 19' or 20' boat I'm assuming you've got a smaller livewell (like me). I leave my pump running all the time when there is bait in there. The pogies I use have been snagged and need all the help they can get to stay alive...Livewell pumps burn out and need to be replaced every few years. I think it's a fact of life, but maybe I'm just using the wrong one. |

If your using the built in live well on the 192, I would use it all the time. I'm also new to the live bait/well fishing and have the same boat. As the live well is small keep it going otherwise you will be chunking.

If your drifting with the engine off, depending on the size and amp draw of your pump......be sure your batteries are in good shape she she starts when you want to move.
Usually run the pump all the time......

Stocked with live bait, it is on. But I also bought a Shoals Bait pen. I use that if I am going to fish a particular spot for a full tide. Also good to keep them over a couple of days off the mooring.

When I'm running I can shut the pump off and I still pump because of the scoop below the boat and type of pump I have.
Very ofter I leave the pump running all night at the dock with my shore power plugged in

Thanks everyone, I guess on all the time it is.
Yeah, the 192 could use a bigger livewell, but I still love the layout of the rest of the boat. I wish I could cut the livewell and battery hatch areas out and get one built into the leaning post. That would be an amazing fishing layout with a lot of room for that size boat. |

On all the time. The rule pumps don't draw too much from the battery, and they can even run dry.
Leave it on.....better for the bait.

I leave on all the time, I use one of them battery jump packs sao not to kill my batterys. It has a cig lighter plug, and if it gets low i just plug into boats plug.
Also I have a drain and I drain some water from time to time and add fresh water to keep them cool, water temp get warm after a while which will start killing bait also.

As Raider Ronnie said, I leave it running all the time except when I am moving. My water pickup is on my hull so the water flows freely when I am moving. I also upgraded to a Rule 1800 gallon pump to get more water flow.

Also depends on the bait type. Scup or Blue Fish you could probably keep in a 5 gallon bucket. Shad, back in the day herring, or Pogies I need to run mine to have any shot of keeping them alive.
