keeping hooks DRY

How do you guys keep your pre-tied hooks(eels) DRY,while deep wading or wetsuiting?Seems like I throw away a couple every trip(rusting)

Milo I use a pelican water proof hard case. I keep my cigs truck keys and a some hooks in there. I just put that inside a large pouch on my wading belt. The pelican container has a purge valve on the side etc. its pretty sweet.

I've seen it Vic ,but it is kinda big and just 1 more thing to carry

wrap each one in saran wrap. put them in a siplock baggie. same with leaders.
works like a charm. as for where to put the baggie?

Vist the jewlry store, they carry small qaulity zip lock bags. Tip i picked up from cowhunter.

I use small 4x4 (or so) HD zip top bags that I guess are gov't spec small parts bags that I got from a friend.

Never had a problem with them UNLESS I switch from eels back to plugs and put a used hook back in w/ the new ones.

Sounds like you're using the bronzed Mustad Live Bait hooks - 3047, I think or whatever it is - which I like, as long as you keep 'em touched up with a sharpening stone - but they do rust quick

Never have been that crazy about the Gami's - but that's also price-driven too

You could also try finding an Army decontamination pack at an Army Navy surplus store - that's what I use for my smokes and Zippo - slightly bigger than a pack of cigs, they have an O-ring type seal and a clip on a strap you can hang it with

thanx Chuck, I could use one of those for my seegars and I do use the mustads.....I will visit a jewler and try for some baggies...Tony how many do you have (since you dont use them anymore)

You can get the baggies at CVS in the med container department. They are like 50 bags for $3.

Try plastic chewing tobacco containers inside a ziplock baggie. This is not completely waterproof, and it's bulky, but it's good enough if you are not swimming. They hold coiled leaders nicely.

I use a sealed plastic container slightly larger than a cig pack. Comes with a loop lanyard and put it around the neck. . Keeps hooks swivels snaps etc. along w/pre tied leaders. Cost 2.00

....that's what he uses now, it even has an internal gasket....but he still manages to get the contents wet...

Double up on the zip-lock, test it first for a good seal, squeeze the air out of it as you seal it up. DON'T let water in when you have to get at the baggies...or just dunk the hook in the Vaseline jar that you carry around with you, that should water proof it....

I know this wasn't your exact question, but I keep hooks in an old Tylenol bottle with some Break Free sprayed in to keep the rust away - just a squirt is all you need. The leader is on a small spool since I don't care if that gets wet.

When I used bags, the hooks would always put holes in the bags and they wouldn't be waterproof anymore.

Of course, the other day when everyone was picking up sand eels off the beach and putting them on hooks ahead of a sinker, I had left both the Tylenol bottle and sinkers at home.

if you double ziplock bag them, you have to wrap in saran wrap first, then put in the bag so they don't poke thru, or make use of those annoying hook protectors that some of the plug builders use.
