Slinging Eels at the Race

Hey All- I am thinking about heading down there and slinging some eels from the surf. I don't know how strong the currents are there. For those in the know, would you recommend an egg sinker or something above the leader to keep the eel down or just go as is? Thanks!

You should be there at first light tomorrow and use something like heavy metal jigs casting into the teeth or the north wind at the traps. When the fishing use to be good I had better luck with plugs then eels at the race area and better luck with eels on the back beach, high head, and head of the meadow.
