I just searched Facebook and there are 2 called Cape Cod Fishing and one called Cape Cod Fishing Network. Which one are you referring to ? (BTW: Great idea).

I did facebook just because my kids use it and want to see what it is all about...could these social network sites be the demise of fishing sites like this?

I don't think so because we have more than few old salts here who could care less about social networking. This is a pretty focused and tight nit community vs facebook which is enormous. In other words we're just a mere pimple on the big ole butt of facebook. I'm on facebook but honestly I have to draw the line with internet groups somewhere so I try to minimize my time on too many other sites.

There has been some trends - including here - where people are dividing time they would normally spend on a forum and split it. So we are a bit slow here from a few factors, economy, winter, facebook, and some general burnout.
I'm working on a few things, including incorporating Facebook into S-B

Wow John talk about being proactive! That's pretty cool. Honestly though I spend more time here than facebook which most of my close relatives are on! Now if you link this site to that they will know where too find me! Wait a minute....NOT COOL!

Good questions! In my opinion: No. Why? Just because!! In all seriousness, FB is a multi-purpose/generic SN. FB has functionality that on-line forums do not have and on-line forums have functionality that FB does not. The thing that makes an on-line community great, is not technology, but the people that contribute to and keep the community alive and vibrant. Technology does however play a critical role is facilitating communication. To use an analogy, the best soil in the world will not yield fruits and vegetables, if the seeds are of poor quality.
Since, FB and other SNs are so generic, when I want to know what blank to buy for casting 2-3 oz swimmers, or how to rig soft plastics, I just do not have a lot of confidence on what's written on the wall--- so to speak.
I think that integration with FB and other SNs is a good way to extend an existing community's communication reach. But I really do not think that they (FB et al) will replace communities like this one, whose roots run deep. It's about the people, not the technology.
Sorry for the long post. Again, this is just my OPINION.

i cant see a 'forum' such as facebook taking over. There is too much to gain from a a focused online community. You can't search "how to rig dead eels" on facebook. Plus old farts..err salts don't use facebook
much easier to type )(*)(*)(*)(*TI^&*UYOIU and hit the post button.
