Avatar RULES: top 5 all time worldwide
`Avatar' rules with $68.3M, tops $1B worldwide
LOS ANGELES — James Cameron's science-fiction epic "Avatar" had another stellar weekend with $68.3 million domestically, shooting past $1 billion worldwide, only the fifth movie ever to hit that mark.
No. 1 for the third-straight weekend, 20th Century Fox's "Avatar" raised its domestic total to $352.1 million after just 17 days. The film added $133 million overseas to lift its international haul to $670 million, for a worldwide gross of $1.02 billion.
"Avatar" opened two weekends earlier with $77 million, a strong start but far below dozens of other blockbusters that debuted as high as $158 million. But business for other blockbusters usually tumbles in following weekends, while "Avatar" revenues barely dropped over the busy Christmas and New Year's weekends.
"It's like a runaway freight train. It just keeps doing business," said Fox distribution executive Bert Livingston. "Here's what's happening: I think everybody has to see `Avatar' once. Even people who don't normally go to the movies, they've heard about it and are saying, `I have to see it.' Then there's those people seeing it multiple times."

the word of mouth on this is unreal...
my daughter and her boyfriend went to see it.. they talked for hours about it..
even later on, as I passed thru the playroom into my cave... they were both on their cells talking to different friends, and it was the topic of both conversations..
one of my custumers has seen it at least 3 times... and is going back for another view...
Cameron does have an excellent track record, and this one is another for the books.

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

There was a monster blizzard that weekend... If there was no snow, it would have made top 10

Well, 3 more SOLD OUT Avatar showings today at the Natick IMAX.
What a movie and much better in 3D. Didn't know anything about the storyline going in but thought is was a great, action packed movie. Kind of reminded the group most of a futuristic "Dancing with the Wolves" but could see similarities to many other recent movies, even (Sig W in) Alien and Star Wars with the human assisted robots. Wasn't expecting it to be that much of a war movie theme.

Watch out now, Avatar only started showing in China on Jan 4, could this mean first $2B movie ever?
Another Cameron movie, his 3-D sci-fi blockbuster "Avatar," was released Jan. 4 and is expected to make more than 500 million yuan.

Most Chinese will see it for free and probably already have. Almost everything is available free on the internet in China.
Avatar may get a good turn out at the theaters because its a movie that is better experienced on the big screen. A big visual and Audio show vs a typical movie which may just have a good story line that can be experienced easily on a computer monitor.

Saw it last night w/the wife and BIL in 3d. We were all stunned by the effects. A great movie. I want to see it again at an IMAX.

Most of the IMAX 3D shows are still running sold out by showtime, so get there early or get tickets on-line. I still recommend getting in line early for better seat viewing options.

Watched it this weekend. If you haven't gone to the movies in years then this is the one. Got a little headache but it was worth it.
