3D or HD 2D?

I just watched a 3D movie (Final Destination 3D, Blu-Ray) for the 1st time in maybe 20 years. Not sure I think the 3D effects outweigh the high quality images of HD 2D. Can it be the cheapo 3D paper glasses? What do others think?

BTW: I'm doing Avatar in IMAX 3D tomorrow, hope it's worth it in 3D.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

2D HD is good enough for me. I just saw over the weekend that ESPN is going to come out with a 3D HD channel for the 2010 World Cup. Your TV has to be able to handle that format though. I haven't seen anything in 3d in god knows how long. I guess the only thing left after 3D HD is virtual reality format. Just sit back in your barker lounger and put on some goggles and get transported.

What a movie and much better in 3D using the large, plastic 3D glasses than the old paper ones. There are different ways apparently to encode movies in 3D as the glasses for Avatar (borrowed a pair) don't work at all in projecting 3D from another movie (Final Destination) where the blue/red paper ones work fine on my home system.

Yes, the only one I know is the just released Final Destination (comes with 2 sets of 3D glasses). $28 version. Only had my Blu-Ray player 2 weeks so just surveying the landscape. Sold my non-Blu Star Trek DVD to my neighbor and just got the Blu-Ray version (3 disk special from Amazon for $20).

There are different ways apparently to encode movies in 3D. Three (at least) different 3D encoding can be used: red/blue, red/green or polarized. The glasses must match the encoding to work.
