Hey Guys,

I am very curious where do most of you sharpies shop.

I am talking about getting the liveliest and biggest eels, the freshest bait and the best equipment. Also, are they well stocked with the goodies that you need?

This year I plan to fish your grounds hard and I need a good idea where they are.

I am talking about the sandy beaches of Massachusetts and the tiny rocky island areas.

Soooo, Cough it up now.

Crazyman - I do hit M&D's when I can and get a lot of gear from Mike, including fat eels on the rare occasion I'm in that area and need them. I've been hitting Erickson's in Warwick on occasion and Quaker Lane as I pick my own eels

... Only way to do it...

Weekapaug takes care of me too down in Westerly.

I used to go to the distributor for my eels but they no longer do it

I've got this guy that comes around driveing a van, top o the goodies, real good deals on reels

then I go to my girl friends t-shop an pick out the other girl friends I want to fish with that night.

RI- weekapaug (good eels) and charlestown .
canal- M&D ( good place and eels ) and red top
cape - nelsons -(ptown), eastmans (falmouth), blackbeards ( orleans )
for eels I get them at my local shop in Ct Dees in New Haven . then ice them down for the ride to the cape .

I'll tell you where I've spent some serious money over the past few years...

Sportsman's Den (Riverside, CT). Big into Charlton fly reels.

Fisherman's World (East Norwalk, CT). Just about everything.

Stratford B&T (Stratford, CT)

River's End Tackle (Old Saybrook, CT)

Causeway B&T (Weekapaug, RI)

Breachway B&T (Charlestown, RI)...they have Corsetti jigs here.

Sorry...no Aquidneck listings but I'm sure Tatoo would be glad to share...

Also.. I was wondering - Now that the AquaSkins Drytops will be arriving very soon and a few of you Mass / R I / CT guys expressed interest… If I am to seek out a reputable shop in your area... Which shop do you think is best?

Mind you...These are must have drytops that will allow you to fish harder under the worst conditions and it will keep ya warm and super dry!

I I were you Al , Id start shopping for big eels at River's Edge in Saybrook and stop at Weekapaug and Quaker Lane along the way til you find them. All these places usually have good eels. I find a lot of times you'll get a mixed bucket but if you tell them you want big ones , they will take the time to pick bigger ones. only way to get really good big ones all the time is to pick your own as John mentioned. Funny thing is some places will let you and other places not. even funnier is that some will let you pick your own Friday night but not again sat night. You never know!

Maybe its my imagination but I think we get bigger eels in CT and RI than they do down the Cape. Sometimes its hard to find the good ones so all the places along the way are worth checking since you can ice them down and they keep nicely. If you wait til you get down there , you run the risk of getting stuck with Cape Cod Shoe string eels.

For chunk bait , Mike T in Wareham usually has nice fresh bait. I think he has the best prices for equipment too for the B+T shops along your driving route. I think its a good practice to get while the gettings good though. You see a plug at river's edge and its $1.00 more than you think it may be down the road , sometimes its good to grab it cause the guy down the road may be out. You spend $40 on gas so what's the sense in possibly not getting the plug you want to save a buck.

Also a good bet is to stock up on the stuff you use a lot by internet ordering. Tim S and Mike T both have some good deals on the net if you plan ahead.

I used to get a lot at Murat's. that was the best RI shop for years. What they didn't have they would order for you. However , its now closed ...too bad!

I tend to stock up. i think nothing of buying 20 gibs Danny's when the assortment and price are right and then just using them for the next five years. we do the same when making our jigs. We make over 1000 then just feed off that pile for several years. certain stuff like Skin jigs are impossible to find when you want them. you have to stock up ahead of time or your out of Luck.

I find buying reels and rods is best done off season , like now or at the shows. In season , the bargains are harder to find.

Anyway , that's my story and I reserve the right to deny it all and change my mind at the drop of a hat.

One shop to think about going to for "high end" gear is the Saltwater Edge in Newport, RI. Well known for it's fly fishing equipment and guide trips, they are now expaning the surf casting section dramatically.

They even have HAB'S!!!

I would recommend stoping by or calling the shop. Ask to speak with Corey.

I live here on the Cape and I will agree that are eel's are like shoe strings for shore. I have started wire linning now because the eel are hard to get big. and have no way of keeping them in Bulk.
