Alright, first off. I used enough exclamation points that should replace the need for BigFish to use them for a while. Larry, you're aruably the nicest guy on here and definitely one of my favorites but your teenage girly use of the excamation point has you flirting with my ignore list.

What happened here anyway? Nobody asks fishing questions or offers help anymore? For the most part anyway. The only fishing related posts seem to be success stories and that just get ripped apart. Honestly that doesn't really bother me that much because it's the same way on every site but it's further magnified here because there is virtually no other content worth reading especially right now. The only type of stuff that has me coming back is the fact that I have good friends here and it's a good way to check to stay in touch. It's nice to have an extended support network and I was touched by the response to the response to the passing of RR's boxer but if your not an insider already I don't see why you would come back after your first visit to the site. It's too bad. When I started fishing for striped bass I was literally hanging on every post by people like tattoo, bassmaster, tlapinski and others because it was informative and entertaining.

I think we have turned into a bunch of "strangers" as Bloocrab said. At the moment at least I think I'd be better served to not even log in here. I will out of addiction and habit but I know it will probably be a waste of time.

Probably should have put this in the GOF forum.

Unfortunately, I agree with a lot of what Mike says here. I've met some awesome people through this site and folks here have been extremely helpful to me. In the past. Seems to me that the last couple years, if you're not an "insider" as luds puts it (which I am obviously not), it's very difficult to get responses, answers to questions, recommendations, or even taken seriously. This is why I essentially stopped posting as much. I still enjoy coming here and reading to fill my time and keep up and what everyone is doing. It just feels like without being an "insider" and short of being a post whore, some don't want to give you the time of day. It doesn't bother me much though.

relax, its brutal heat, we have passionate people, I actually think its been way to mellow out here. I miss #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, I miss long rants from people, I miss fish pics.
I look at this site as a bar room out with friends, we bust balls, we fight, we argue, and in the end sometimes I learn someting. Some bonds are made , some are broken.

Luds you fool.
You got this thing all f'ed up. I gotta scroll all over the place to read and post this to this thread.

As I was sittin on the can last nite, I came to the same exact conclusion, that there has been so little stuff on here worth readin it disappoints me. I have tried to do the same in our Team S-B striper cup forum to get people involved.

It does feel like the middle of the winter with shack nasties goin on. And I have wondered as well why there are so many people registered for this site, yet it is always the same people that post. Startin to seem Clicky. Some new blood is needed. I remember I lurked on here for a while before I became active, and was even "afraid" to post as I didn't want to be considered an "idiot" The only dumb question is one that is not asked. That's fine, most people are fortunate that they have other things and interests in their lives unlike me that they don't become more involved.

There are forum websites out there for everything, from computers, to guns, to video games, to antique collecting and even other fishing web site forums. The difference with this one is that it is more of a local feel so you are actually within meetin distance of folks.

I do look forward to readin peoples' sucesses and failures on here. Love hearin some of the crazy stories, and do miss the true talk about fishin. Too much bitchin. I actually post little on here as I don't come on here to get in bitch fests with strangers. I read people's posts and take em with a grain of salt.

Not sure what I am truly tryin to say without givin away all my secrets [ike soakin the inside of my eel bucket with eel potion[/COLOR] but I enjoy this site a lot and love catchin.

Great post Luds. Hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings.

Maybe people like bloocrab, instead of calling someone a "@$#%$" for discussing the benefits of releasing breeders, could instead explain why removing some number of breeders won't hurt stocks. In other words, instead of immediately insulting those with whom you disagree, how about telling us why you think they're wrong?

Just my $0.02. I love this site...

Jim, ....I don't interpret ,,, "Looks good......for a dead fish" as "discussing the benefits of releasing breeders".....in my opinion, that was a "strange" remark, which obviously provoked me to reply with my own "strange" remark...however, IMO.. it should not have been posted on that thread. As stated before, he/she should have started their own thread on "discussing the benefits of releasing breeders", instead of negatively adding to an obvious accomplishment to some, perhaps not all though.

In my opinion, the TRUE conservative,,, shouldn't fish at ALL. There is No guarantee that a released fish will survive, no matter how careful you are. Sure, in the middle of the night you held it by the tail, pushing and pulling it back and forth, forcing the water through it's gills, it kicked...you released it and it swam away. You grab your rod and start casting again. This tired 27 pound fish, surfaces again, a little down from where you released it, it's dark, you don't see it...it rolls to it's side in exhaustion, fighting exhaustion along with an oversized swim bladder, it can't manage to roll back over...what happens after that? = Dead Fish/Breeder

Again, IMO...these overly conservative 'members' who quickly hop on people that do keep their legal limit,....play the side of the fence that suits them during that moment. For those that never keep fish and preach about the health of the stock....DON'T GAMBLE ON YOUR ABILITY TO REVIVE. Simply hang up your rod and rest easy knowing that you will never kill a fish. I'm not a "Gamer", but I believe they have video games that will ful-fill their need to feel a tug on the end of their line....???

Jim, I have never kept a fish that I haven't eaten myself, or given to a less fortunate family. I truly enjoy eating fish, but even more, supplying fish to those who don't have the ability to fish...and that includes fish of all flavors. Do I always keep fish, NO....I only keep fish when I KNOW they have a belly to fill. I could see if people kept fish, weighed them in for a tourney, then tossed em' off the dock....now that would PISS me off., but when people keep fish within the law, and put the fish to good use......????...where's the harm in that? So what, cry conservation now?? ooooooooh, you're killing all my breeders???.....

I know I'm not liked on here, I don't really G-A-F though, we all have opinions, and yeah...opinions are like A$sholes.......and yeah, sometimes they stink more than others. After a while, you get used to the smell. Jim, when you catch a 60, can you take me fishing with you? PLEEEEASE!!!

sucks is a strong word, but i see what you're saying.

there used to be alot of guys (#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, bassmaster, DZ, crafty angler, steve, to name a few) with tons of experience who were willing to take the time to answer questions in detail based on years of experience. When you got answers and opions from those guys, you knew you were getting something worth thinking about. It was great for guys like Luds and I who came along knowing nothing at a time when there was a ton of great information on here. I know that for me, #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& and bassmaster, via this website, were as influential and helpful to me as anything. And I actually enjoyed coming here to read their opinions and I liked that fact that they were a bit crazy and entertaining - despite the fact that I'm just a clown .

i think the issue is that there are fewer of those guys around now, and more guys with alot less experience and know how. They mean well, but when you ask a question and get alot of answers from people who really don't have the experience to be answering the question (I know I've been guilty of this) it muddies the waters and starts to make it so that its not even worth asking.

unfortunately, you can't really go backwards. a site like this probably works better with fewer, more passionate members. as the number of members grows, it kind of gets watered down.

as far as having to be an insider and all that, i really don't see it. i think that most well thought out and presented questions get answered, regardless of who posts them. clicky maybe - but that's life. to expect to just sign up for a website and have people want to meet up with you to fish, chat, hangout, sodomize or whatever is asking alot in my opinion. if you hang out for a while and attend some events, maybe you'll find some people you become friends with.

i still like the site and will continue to visit and try to contribute when I can. it certainly beats the alternatives.

Sorry I haven't been here to stir things up. Went back to work and have been real busy with travel to the "left Coast" and meetings. I' ll try to be more diligent in pissing everyone off.

Years ago Sea Dangles and I use to fight all the time. Now that Chris and I are friends we don't fight so much
And finally #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& isn't coming back. He's very happy on the "other" site and since he is a commercial fisherman supporting his family, he doesn't have time for the trivial nonsense we participate in here. I talk to Bill all the time and he is doing fine.

OK, carry on.

No boat, back in the suds.

Dangler, it's the communities site to much of an extent and I don't rule with an iron fist. don't believe in it. But I do need to make some calls that some don't like. Damned if I do, damned if i don't. But I have discovered that no matter what I do it will probably be opposite of what you would want

The people that stoke the most coals tend to complain most about the heat. Still like tipping a beer with you though.

What can we do, hmmm.

There is a inverse correlation between the lack of striped bass and nonsense threads.
The solution will be to get involved in preventing the forage from being decimated from coastal waters. This will entice the bass to move further north up the coast.
Attend the regulatory meetings as mentioned in earlier threads and make yours voices heard or if you have nothing to say then go for support.
Bottom line, Save forage will increase bass and thereby create interesting threads

Also maybe bringing in a whipping boy. I suggest rock hillbilly mike.. He can regale us of his success and impress us with pictures of others fish.

I'm guilty of not posting much lately but that's just a reflection in my catching in recent weeks. I'm giving up beer from today until I get in the leaderboard.

This site Sucks???? Sucks is a pretty strong word, maybe its perspective. Just the other day I learned a swivel trick in the offshore forum that saves time and $$ on florocarbon.

that monster bass was great to see, those who b*tch about the guy keeping it are par for the course, you just have to hone your skimming skills to weed thru the junk, and ignoring a dumb post is the best way to let it die.

My participation in this site has been just above a troll, but Tuna fishing killed this striper fisherman, and I don't have much to add other than fish with live bait, I think you catch more.

The shack nasties are paired up with the heat, or is it the humidity either way, S-B.com is like the tide it ebbs and flows.

I feel better now. It was good to see some confirming my feelings but even better to read all the positive comments about this place. Nice reminder of why it's a good place to be. Maybe it's not so sucky after all. Got sick of fishing alone because my buds have other commitments. PM'd TDF and BassDawg and we went out together last night. Wouldn't have had that opportunity if this place didn't exist either.

I still hate those fing exclamation points though!!!!!!!!!! While I'm at it Larry should also use the edit button once and a while rather posting 3-4 times in a row without a response from anyone. Can I just have edit rights for BigFish?

Some of my best friends and closest fishing buddies have come via this site. Every site gos through its ups and downs. The ups have far outweighed the downs here.

First thing everyone has to realize is this is the week of July 4th and many people are on vacation away from their computers, as they should be. I don't post here as much as I used to because I don't fish as much, too busy with work and my son. I also think that some people have finally realized that posting about success at the canal and other spots only comes back to haunt you. Spots are over crowded and parking spaces have become non-existent. I always liked this site the best because it is usually free of the highschool antics seen on other boards where someone tries to create controversy just for the sake of stirring the pot. I don't know the best way to increase participation from members but it is not by attacking someone for posting a photo of a trophy fish.
