Another tagged fish

29" fish took a mack from me today. Had a pink tag in its belly that I snipped off and slid him back in after taking a measurement on the deck. Just cleaned the growth off the tag and it says " Reward " with the 800 tel # and the tag number. Called the #, was voicemail for USFWS. So will call tomorrow. After doing a search here, it looks like a pin or hat for the reward. Now if it had been a green tag....... Anyone else had a pink USFWS tag recently or know what tags are good for $$$$? This fish was healthy, even where the tag was inserted. Much better than the two ALS fish I have caught. Those wounds were nasty......

Got a Littoral Society tagged schoolie yesterday. Also got a 33# fish with a pink tag(still gotta call that one in) in May. That was the biggest tagged fish I've ever caught, usually get 1 per year. Some of these tags look pretty poorly done too.

Ross, a Pink tag = Pink hat.
Real fishermen wear pink, right?

Seriously, that is cool. Always interesting to learn the history of a tagged fish. Remember to let us know when you find out...

Fish was tagged in Delaware Bay on 4/24/09. Was 26.32 inches at that time.
I got the pin and a certificate.

nice, I got a yellow tag on the smallest striper I've ever caught, lol, in early june. It was a Hudson River Foundation one that said reward, $10-$1000, so naturally I was pumped. Called em up and i get 10 bucks, and a chance in a drawing with about 250 other guys for 2 1k, 2 500 and 2 250's. lol, I say false advertisement!

Has been a while since I got a tagged fish.

Has anyone ever wrote the number down, taken a weight and measurement and phoned it in but left the tag inplace as to continue the data???? Can this be done and still get your hat?

I'm sure you can because when I called it in she asked if I removed the tag, the tag was so dirty I couldn't read it so I removed it

Big differance between the average ALS tagger and a trained biologist...it's funny about tagged fish, they seem to run in cycles... I havent got one an about 3 years now, the last time i got tagged fish I got 3 the same week... all taged in Maryland the same day...BTW... all hat fish.

A good run is better than a bad stand!

I caught a Littoral Society tagged fish about 3 weeks ago. The tag hole was nasty and raw and teh tag was compeltely covered in weed growth. I think I did the fish a favor by removing the tag. Picture below. Sorry it's blurry, but you can still see the growth. I caught another tagged fish from the same exact rock on the same lure 2 years ago in June that had originally been tagged in the Thames the previous February. Interested to see if this fish comes back with simliar data.

Very interesting. I caught one in the Canal in late May that was tagged on the very same day in 2009 in the very same place. It think my fish was 26.74 inches at the time of tagging. I guess they were schoolmates.
