Do you have a favorite place?
Any advice, do you have a favorite place. Its been awhile and the Hunger is building. So where do you go when you have the desire? I looking for an old time Clam Bar.
He took me to catch my first flounder and snapper fishing and he (Dad) took me to my first Clam Bar, had my first one on the half shell when I was eight or nine yrs old. Been addicted to both ever since. So where is your favorite Clam Bar with a salty atmosphere?

Not a big clam guy, but the Chieftan in Plainville is at the top of my list when I decide to dig in...not exactly a seafood place, but the steamers rock.

Thanks everybody all good places...
DeadlyRichard thanks
Jim's Dock in Jerusalem, RI(duh) it's BYOB and CASH only! it is a hidden gem. Just down the road from Matunuk Oyster, but a world away. Surrounded by boats, great view, laid back, old school. I think they run a charter boat or two also... so you can show up fresh from fishing and not get dirty looks. If anything, it might help!
hidden gem, laid back, old school... just one I'm looking for. will try it tomorrow.
My youngest and I are going to drive up and go out on the Gail Frances for the day definitely going to hit this place on the way back..
Larsen's in Menemsha holds a place in my heart. Ice cold cherrystones

The clam plate at the Red Wing is pretty hard to beat. let alone finish. still has a line out the door on weekends. And not much has changed in the past 35 yrs

I can name a number of clam shacks, woodmans, clam box, jt farnums, Essex seafood, but they don't serve raw seafood. Finding a clam bar is difficult especially on the water. The back eddy in Westport?

Also, I always hope that there is a long wait for tables because then I can hang on the dock and have a few beers and raw bar items while I wait. they usually have a Weber grill goin' out there too with meat-on-a stick, shellfish and other delights.

We had a fantastic dinner there this weekend...I was saddened to hear one of my favorite local chefs who used to own the Back Eddy no longer does.....it was still top notch
and speaking of Chris Schlesinger his East Coast Grill in Cambridge is still going strong after 25 years with a big emphasis on grilled seafood
The Clam Box in Quincy has a place in my heart and belly for fried clams

chris is one of the best! my hero! but he sold the Eddy awhile back and one of the owners is Aaron, who along with his brother had been the chef there since day one- so it's ok! it's exactly the same, I swear! And apologies to Driftwood, this became a FRIED clam post. I now see the error of my ways, I was so excited about fried clams that I forgot about the original spirit of the post. (still no excuse for jims dock s#^^^^^&g...) I get up to E.C.G. as much as possible, can't beat it. Trends come and go, but wood grilled, local, seasonal seafood will always rule!

I don't wknow where you're located, but the Clam Box in Wollaston, MA is good. Tony's Clam Shack which is righ next door is also very good. As mentioned above, the Red Wing has excellent clams and very good pizza if you want a little variety.

sorry to hear that. maybe they are cheapin' out this year, or I have been lucky(doesn't sound like me.) when we have been, I usually get fried clams & stuffies. Mayhaps the cooler full of iced down beer and my sun stroke influenced me? I'm usually good at judging these things. (I'm in the bizzness) Sorry for the skunkin', hope it was just an off day for them...
