Darter question

What is the best choice for types of wood to use making darters?

I was told that it was oak, just curious.

Maple or birch Frank. I used Birch and it turns real nice. Salty has some real nice birch stock. Expect to have some duds so make a bunch.

I use soft maple and soak it in sealer until I get the weight I want.
BM, Musso, and I think Pichney used hard maple
Gibbs supposedly used birch
Splitting is an issue particularly with hard maple
Weight gain while in sealer is an issue with all three.
