ok so i just got a Shimano cardiff 401a on an Okuma guide select swimbait rod 7'6 1-5oz. my question is will it stand up to the bass and blues around here. ill be mostly fishing the breachways and pier and off the beach.

Maybe. If it was the Shimano Corsica I'd say no way - they lasted months at best. Calcutta, absolutely. Have not used that specific model but I've used similar.

Capacity is on the small side for the breachways in some conditions.

That is a great boat casting outfit. For shore you would do better with a longer rod @ 9 feet. The Lami GSB 1081L blank shines with a 400 sized reel.
