Garmin Nuvi
I have a garmin 1490 and looked into updating the maps.
It is $50 for one year or $90 for the life of the unit.
Has anyone done this? Any recommendations.

I spent the lifetime update. it's for both software and maps.
I have yet to drive into a body of water in the dark. But I also am now driving on roads that were previously undefined and caused the English Nanny to go bonkers.

I just got a garmin phone and it came with a free update. I figure I'll wait a couple of years before I do the update.

A new one with a larger screen is only 129 at major electronics stores. Kinda like putting Windows Cloud on that old 386, isn't it?

Thats what I was thinking. I couldn't decide if it was worth updating where the price for a new unit isn't that much more. Seems like a scam almost, or maybe it's just some guy who figured that would be a good price point. I've got to give them credit, at these prices it makes the decision tougher.

I'm in the same boat. Bought a 200 when they were just dropping in price. The newer ones are less than I paid for my original one. I'm reading what the TomTom and others have to offer to see f it is better.

If you are anywhere close to needing a new cell phone, I just the Garmin phone for $25. Combo of both the GPS units and a smart phone. Android powered.
