Update on Bill!!!
Hi All sorry for the late update, but it has been slow progress for Bill.
He is doing a little better but having a hard time getting those muscles built back up. They had to give him 2 pints of blood the day before yesterday as his numbers where down from all the fluid going out of his bowels. Yesterday they were able to get him to a chair and have him sit up for over an hour which was huge for him but very exhausting. He still cannot stand up which is very frustrating for him.
He is still having major output from his bowels to his iliostomy, so they have to keep taking blood and monitoring his TPN intake and fluids every 4 hours so he does not get dehydrated. The problem is we have no idea how long it will be before his bowels start working, some days he eats very little, although yesterday he did pretty good.
He is so tired of being poked and prodded, I just wish I could help him get better but all i can do is watch and its crushing me some days as I try to be strong for him but It is so dam sad to see him suffering. I just keep praying he will get strong enough to get him home soon but they told us yesterday at rehab that he will not be able to come home until his bowels start working because of all the monitoring they have to do for his nutrition and blood work. Then the doctors ask us if the surgeon had mention when they would go back in a reverse the iliostomy. dah!!! well they will not be able to do that clearly until his bowels start working and he is strong enough to have another freakin surgery.
SOme days really make you wonder who these people are working in health care. I did it for over 18 years and it just amazes me what I am seeing today. Bill has lost so much weight, when I got there yesterday he was sitting in the chair and he looked so dejected so I was giving him a back rub as his body aches so much from laying down and I could not believe how bony his back was, so we gave him a nice shave and washed his hair as that made him feel a bit better.
I want to THANK ALL OF YOU who have sent donations to Bill and I as I really appreciate it.
I got a rejection letter in the mail today saying his insurance will not cover him in rehab, then how the hell did he get there in the 1st place. the insurance company had to approve him going in there or he would not have been sent there. So gotta go fight the insurance company and get things straightened out.
Please keep the prayers going as we are not in the home stretch yet, still got a long way to go. Sorry about rambling on its been a very emotional day!!!

Hi larry, Bill is in Tufts medical center in Boston. He is in Sinai Rehab which is a separate wing in the hospital. he is aloud to have visitors and will help boost his day as it is long right now. my cell number is 617-633-6738 have it on all the time. Best time to visit bill is late afternoon evening. As they do therapy on him 2 times a day.
I just talked to him on the phone and he said he was able to sit in the chair for 2 hours today and today he stood up for the 1st time so he was pretty happy about that.

Keep emphasizing baby steps and positive thoughts. It takes the body a very long time to get back what can be lost in a short amount of time. That 2 hour sit and stand are really GREAT news. It seems so simple but it really is a lot for someone who has gone through so much. Progress is being made for sure - just re-read some of your posts from a while back. My thoughts and prayers go out to you both.

JamesJet, you are exactly right, I just get over tired and then my mind wonders too much and then I get overwhelmed. He is making great progress and doing 100% better than 2 weeks ago. Just been a very emotional journey and I can not wait to get him home again.

These long, hard days when it seems like there's no end to all the stress, not to mention the added BS from the insurance companies, will hopefully soon pass. Then you'll be on the water listening to wind, waves and birds and this will seem like a million years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with you guy's

It never ceases to amaze me of the drive of the human spirit!
Although I've never met Bill, he sounds like a person that is full of life, and isn't done with it yet!
It's equally amazing that being imobilized for such a short time can so greatly affect so many muscular functions we take for granted each and every day. I hope he continues to make "strides" in the right directions, as the body tends to function better when it is in motion.
And let's not forget that you are a saint in your own rights!
God bless you both!

Well today was an awesome day for Bill, he took 3 steps on his own today, that was a huge thing and he had a big ole smile on his face when I got in to see him today!!!
He did have issues with his white count being up yesterday to 28,000, but it went down today to 13,000 so hopefully nothing starting there. Also had a spot outside of his ileostomy whole that was leaking so I hope it is no big deal, but waiting to hear what the doctors have to say about it.
Took him in some fresh watermelon and honeydew melon, said it tasted so good even tough he could only eat 3 bites. A lot better than that hospital crap.
Going out fishing with the girls tomorrow, have a friend coming up from CT and Kelly and hopefully Pam, so we are going to go out and rip some lips and hopefully blow off some stress. Bill told me to go have a good time.
Its just very hard not to be in there with him as I start feeling guilty but its been a very emotional week and also some big strides were made. He told me to quite feeling guilty but its hard when it is a passion you share so much together, its like having half of your body missing.
AGAIN thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and support.

Awesome to hear!!! Incremental improvements may seem small day to day but week to week it'll be leaps & bounds.
