Had a great day on the water yesterday!!!
Well Bill told me to get out and take a day on the boat being as the weather man had a good forcast going so I took Pam, Jim and John out with me as we decided to head offshore for some cod and Haddock or Pollack as the harbor has been all but just about dead since the big blow last week.
So we headed to the bank, saw bustin Tuna all the way out, even took a few shots at them with top water but despite the weather mans forcast it was a little snotty the 1st half of the day. We finally get to the bank and started to do a few drifts, got lots of dogfish, small cod, small cusk, small pollock, Hake and Pam ended up getting a nice 25 lb Bass in 250 feet of water on her cod jig, which was released for next season.
So we ended up leaving the area south on the bank and headed to the NW corner to see if we could do any better for size and just numbers of fish cause at this point we have no keeper fish what so ever. Lots of draggers up that way, we tried deep we tried shallow and then bang I hook up and I knew it was not a cod, it was big and heavy, thought it might be a small tuna maybe as i felt some pretty good head shakes but she really was not taking much line. Until a few minutes later then the fish just started peeelin it off. Took me about 30 min to get the fish up and she's close but no color yet. We look over the side and there she comes tail up, Nice Fat 48 inch tuna. Only hook left in here was about 29 inches from her tail, it was the teaser hook from the cod rig, the jig was gone so I was draggin her backwords for a while and she was done. Pam did a great gaff shot and John and Jim helped lift her in the boat. Could not frigen beleive the fish stayed hooked up and I was able to land it on my cod rod. LOL
Was a great day to be offshore with some great people, thanks for all the help guys and gals!!! Made my freakin summer!!!

Thanks Guys, still can't beleive that hook did not come out LOL
Definately one for the memory books as I have not tried for a tuna for myself in over 6 years when we bought the boat as we are always trying to get someone else into one who has never experienced catching one. It was a total rush and was nice to have a big bend in the rod!!!
ZIIIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!
Gonna do a few steaks on the grill for Bill tonight for dinner, he loves tuna and it will be good for him as well. He was pumped about me catchin the tuna, just wish he was out there with me but soon he will be!!!
