Tipping a 1201L

I want to tighten up a 1201L blank by cutting it down to a 12. That puts it around 9'6". i'm looking to use the shorten rod deep wading and throwing eels and plugs from Bombers to SS darters. Fellow members have a cut 1201L 3" ipped #11 and 3" off butt. Thoughts??

Have you fished a GSB1081M? If not, it is worth trying one before you chop up a 10' blank. It is an impressive and versatile blank. You could easily extend it 6".

I've built many M's. I want a softer action but with a niche of power. The L cut 12" from butt is another popular eel rod but I want to maintain the butt for a little added backbone. I feel the L has the versatility to make several options. I was looking to see also if anyone has just tipped the L to a #12 and can add their input if the tipping to that size will load with 6" bombers & redfins.

not exactly what your asking, but just incase its helpfull:

1201l with 3" cut from the tip and 3" from the butt is fairly popular if I rember right. I think if you do a search you'll find it. I'm not a big fan of it as a friend did one and I tried it out one night.

1201m with 6" cut from the butt end is sweet, my second favorite rod to a full length 1201m. i've fished a-salt bombers up to 6 oz grs pikies with mine, but really love it for riggies. something else to consider.

I did that once, about 4" from the tip of the L until a 12 fit perfectly . Was a great rod...Nebe might still have it if he didn't sell it.

Never threw a red fin but you could crank a ss darter with it.

Thanks all. I take everyones suggestions and cotemplate my decision. Josh, I remember when you were looking into cutting the M. That sounds like a nice wetsuit rod. Slightly shorter and manageable with power.

Tip cuts should be done in steps. Like 2 inch, 2 inches , 2 inches with trials between rather than 6 all at once. You can always cut more , you can never put it back.
