Breakaway Bait Casting Rig

I do some bait fishing from shore and was wondering if these rigs that attach the hook to a plastic bumper so everything is all together really allow more distance.There not cheap and was wondering if it's worth the extra money.I have a leader set up with an egg sinker on it that moves between the hook crimp barrel and the swivel that joines leader to main line.Seems to be somewhat of a similar set up for casting.Can you tell me some about these kind of set ups.Thanks Doug
