Mechanic Advice/Engine Replacement

I have a 2004 ford ranger xlt 2wd 4.0L with only 31000 miles.

Yesterday all of the sudden it started vibrating violently and the engine Light went on. Took it in for a full diagnostic today and they said the a valve dropped into cylinder 5 and the cheapest route is to get a new/used engine.

Does anyone know of a reasonable source for a rebuilt/used engine or a reasonable mechanic to replace the cylinder head, etc.

The body and the rest of this truck is in mint condition so it's worth getting it fixed. I'm in the East Bay, RI area.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Tim

If you dropped a valve ,you will need more than just a cylinder head. PM me the VIN when you can,I work next to a salvage yard and the guys give me decent pricing. I can pick the engine up and run it down to you if needed. Did you hear a noise when this happened? I havent heard of those engines dropping valves.Did they do a compression check ?

Does your incessant whining make you feel better? How about you just shut the hell up and suck it up? It's a fishing forum , so please just stop.

Yes it's knocking pretty good, sound like a penny in a can. Thanks so much, I'll PM you the vin# Pretty sure they did a compression check. I've found a few complaints online regarding this particular engine and this problem, something about a misaligned cylinder design flaw.

Andy if you find a Jeep Liberty CRD 2006 next door let me know. I'll be needing to collect some parts before they all disappear

What parts are you looking for Bill ? They dont have a diesel one over there but any other parts that are the same as a gas engine they may have.

Im always happy to help out where I can, since my fishing ability leaves much to desire I can't be any help there...at least I'm good at one thing!
