Another virus to be aware of

Hello all, I know it is a fishing forum but I will pass along info on this latest virus out there thrashing computers. This is an excerpt of what I have sent to my users regarding this virus....

There is a new, more damaging version of the "I Love You" virus delivered by e-mail. The virus keeps changing its name in the subject field. You must assume that any e-mail with an attachment could be infected by this virus. Similar to the previous virus, this new virus attack uses a *.VBS (visual basic script) to infect files and to propogate the virus through your personal address book. If you open this attachment, everyone in your personal address book will receive this virus. Unlike the previous virus, the new virus will also damage core system files most likely resulting in loss of all files on hard drive. This is the latest information on the viru from Symantec:

<blockquote><hr>
VBS.NewLove.A Last updated 5/18/00 5:34pm PST SARC, in conjunction with other anti-virus vendors, has renamed this worm from VBS.LoveLetter.FW.A to VBS.NewLove.A. The VBS.NewLove.A is a worm, and spreads by sending itself to all adressees in the Outlook address book when it is activated. The attachment name is randomly chosen, but will always have a .Vbs extension. The subject header will begin with "FW: " and will include the name of the randomly chosen attachment (excluding the .VBS extension) Upon each infection, the worm introduces up to 10 new lines of randomly generated comments in order to prevent detection. Also known as: VBS/Loveletter.ed, VBS/Loveletter.Gen, VBS_SPAMMER, VBS.Loveletter.FW.A Category: Worm Infection length: Variable Virus definitions: 05/18/2000 (release time pending) Threat assessment:
Damage: High Distribution: High Wildness: Medium

Do not open any attachments in e-mail. Save all attachments onto hard drive, scan them first with the latest version of Norton Anti-Virus (the latest virus definition will be available soon for upgrade).
