Input on 22 cal pellet rifle Purchase
Benjamin Trail NP Hardwood .22 Cal Air Rifle With Scope - AirgunDepot.com
Thinking about buying this pellet rifle to kill varmints eating much of my backyard garden. The harvahart trap has not been successful... and shooting un-wanted backyard critters sounds like fun to me.. Mostly woodchucks.... reviews say it has a decent scope and plenty of punch to kill small animal with a well placed shot from 25-40 yards. Most of my shots will be about 50-75 feet.
Any input from people who may have a 22 cal pellet rifle...
Thanks- Chris

this one is perfect....
don't buy a junk gun...
but it's not light .... i must say
it's a sit down and snipe them off
from a distance , accurate as a S.o.B.
and fairly quiet too
1500 feet per second because ...Dig it man
they can duck a slow bullet

Looks fine, Chris. Don't need 1500fps for what you are doing.
I have had the same gun for 30+ years. Sheridan Bluestreak 20cal 695fps. Very accurate gun. No scope but irons are fine, although I might need to sight it in again as I haven't shot it in a while....
Round head pellets are more accurate than pointed.

My kid got a woodchuck with our 1200 fps .177, so I would say a quality .22 should do fine.

yeah the 1500 fps rounds go right thru them
i used to have to shoot gophers every day out west
and they could actually duck a 22 long rifle bullet
unless i aimed it at the dirt one inch in front of their hole.

just your assumption Senior Seldom Seen
i see the blood
and still hear the pellet hit a distant tree with a whack
if you were referencing the gopher shots, nope i'd still get them in the head

this is a true story:
i had a garden out west and those F-ing gophers would tunnel under the nice cool soil and eat the root veggies exactly like on the cartoons, i'm serious!
where your standing there watching it get pulled down inch by inch until it disappears.........
so the only thing you could do was to set gopher traps in the "main run"
a larger tunnel they dig to access all other side tunnels....
So one day i get home and see that the trap is sprung and i go to grab it
saying to myself: Gotcha you bassturd ALRIGHT!
and suddenly the trap recoils as what i caught was in fact a very large and pissed off gopher snake... Scared the living Crap out of me. lol

They essentially give you the second barrel free in that deal.

The benjamin you are looking at is very good. The f.p.s. is good for a .22 cal . I also like the nitro piston better than a spring. Keep in mind chucks are very tough animals. I've hit more than one with a.22 hollow point and had them try to escape. Good hunting. Mike

I aim for the ear area and that usually drops them, although sometimes a quick second shot is needed
