Trophy Homes

I fished this morning along millionaires row. I thought I would share a few pics of how the titans of society spend their summers.

Hey Phil check out these ones. These 3 homes, yeah right homes, are all on the same lot. They bought the 2 houses on the lot and then leveled them and started putting these up. Still not done yet. I can't wait to see the landscaping. The cottage I bought down the road about 2 miles could fit in the bathrooms I'd bet. All these places are probably only summer places. The lot on the water is probably like 6 acres too. Just the land must have been as much as some third world countries budget.

They are all ridiculous. This isn't even the expensive grand island and inner harbor area. You should see some of them.

don't post pics of my house please

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!

It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.

Its really crazy when you think about it, a good hedge fund manager can make enough in a year to buy like a half dozen of those homes I bet. Gotta love America!

The sad part of it - these homes only get used about 30 nights a year...

No Phil. They avoid that area.
The crazy thing is these homes are no more than 10 feet above sea level and look direct South. In between the islands so any Hurricane is going to be coming straight in their front yards.

My brother works finish construction on houses similar to these. He says some of the lumber is outrageous. $300 for a 10 ft piece of lumber....A customer recently came to them wanting a job done in Jamestown, but before he hires the company he's sending a crew of guys down to Key West , Fla for the month of October to work on his condo. If he likes their work, then they will get the Jamestown job.
Must be nice to have that kind of $$ to throw around.

I see the same thing on lake winnipesauki...... their storage sheds are better/bigger than my house....they have care takers watch the property in the summer and winter...every once and awhile... they might stay there in the winter when they lower their standards and ski new hampshire instead of Aspen or Switzerland...I get the pleasure of waking them up with my auger( always after 7 )... one year had a woman come and tell me I couldn't fish out in front of her house... the reason .. she wanted to use her out door hot tub.. and I was disturbing her privacy.. my guess her mid winter romp was probably not with her husband...BTW.. i stayed put... she called the police.. they sent the wardens.. the wardens checked our licenses and told us to have a nice day...

A good run is better than a bad stand!

P. five years ago someone bought one of the most beautiful houses on a stretch overlooking Sampson in pristine condition. The view is breath taking.
Because it wasn't the largest house on the stretch they tore it down and built the largest one on the stretch, which took 3 years. IMO the new one is modern ugly compared to the old Cape Cod house.
Can't imagine someone buying a house as beautiful as that tearing it down and wasting 3 years not being able to enjoy it while the new one was being built.

They probably rented one down the road while they were waiting.
We do a lot of work on Lake George, not much different. Buy a house for a million plus, tear it down and put up what you want.

Ah, McMansions. Take the ferry to Nantucket. Leaving Hyannis harbor, look west along the Cape shoreline as far as the eye can see. And those are all you'll see.

Same thing when you get close enough to Nantucket. Look to the right of the harbor, all the way towards Madaket. Same thing. Developed to within an inch of its life.

I have done work on a number of premier waterfront homes up here, some of which I have posted pics of in the past. A lot of these homes now have for sale signs up due to the pending new flood zone maps and the mandatory insurance a mortgage company could force upon the owners.... Some premiums I have heard are running in the six figure range.... That will separate the rich from the really rich. As well as those who have a mortgage from those who don't. The flood zone deal is going to be a big topic. Soon.

Yeah, if they're selling because of the new flood maps, they couldn't afford it in the first place.

It SHOULD have been a big deal back in June when it was announced. Insurance industry knew about it at the end of last year, but didn't know how the maps were being done.

Basically the grandfathering is all done, as it should be.

Yup.
Going back to actuarial rates, no longer subsidized rates. This began post-Katrina, but took a while to get through.

If you can afford to live/build there, buy insurance, or don't, your choice. If it falls down, and you chose no insurance, don't ask the Feds to bail you out.

Novel approach, huh?
