MMM,
This is a tough issue this year. I think we may be forgoing it.

Depending on who wants to go, maybe we can do one a little closer to home for me (around here somewhere).

I might be able to put together a limited run; I'm kind of waiting for my dr's appointment on 12/13 to see how the new ACL is doing before I make the call. I'd say 50/50.

How many other people be down?

LMK,
Thanks,
Rick

I'm going to PT in a few minutes. Just got the stitches out. Yesterday was the first day on the bike and back to the gym.

I'm back to work on Monday. We'll see how good I am when I start walking to the train every day.

Right now, I'm way ahead of the curve. I was off the drugs way quicker than the last two times and into PT 5 days after surgery. This coupled with the fact that I'm not knocking them back every day after the gym is likely helping a lot, as well.

We'll see how it looks in a month. Hopefully, I can get fitted for the brace at that appointment and then maybe I'll give it a shot. If not, we can do a smaller get-together.

Can't we just tow you around on a jet sled, then build an igloo around you while you sit and drink brandy?

Icing should be good for the knee, methinks...

You could tow me around on the sled. I think that I'll be able to work something out either way.

Might be safest to swaddle him in tape and bubblewrap to a sled to tow him around. Designate a serving wench and everything

There's a pond near me that's supposed to have plenty of crappie and bass/picks. Round. Could be worth investigating.

Yeah,
Let me ask my buddy who is the freshwater king of Cape Ann.

I'm guessing that would work if you guys want to fish Gloucester.

Alright,
I just got clearance from the boss lady. I say we do something around here, on the Saturday of MLK weekend.

That would be Saturday, 1/18.

We'd need to find a spot. I've personally never fished in the Metro West or North Shore before.

I'm open to suggestions.

I'd also like to start kind of later, like 8:00 AM.

So,
If anybody likes this idea and has suggestions for a spot, please let me know and I say we do it.

Rick

Chebacco in Essex was always a good ice fishing lake when I lived on the North Shore. Has 2-3 access points . Bass ,Pickerel, white perch, crappie and yellow perch.

I've fished Chebacco a little bit during the summer. I hear it used to be fantastic for bass, but the fishing has slowed as of late. Some monster pickerel in there though- I've lost them

Definitely an option, plenty of access. Didn't ice up at all last year, though.

So a few options:
Round Pond
Chebacco Lake
One of TDF's secret ice spots (not sure if he wants crowds there)

Rick- any word from your buddy? And how are you doing??

I'm good. Let me ask Scott. I'll try to get him today before he gets into his scotch collection.

Scott says the place to go is Wallace's in Gloucester.

He fishes there all summer long and does really well.

I'll post links soon.

I say we go there.

I am tentively in, pending schedule with work. Never been but is this a family friendly event or a more hardcore kind of thing? I have a 5 yo that can't wait to try icefishing...

I'm not sure how many kids will be there, but I think that we would be pretty well behaved (as opposed to many years, where I would have said the opposite).

I'm going to take a look at Wallace's with Scott on Saturday. He says there will be plenty of parking at the W. Gloucester T stop.

I'll post more info if we decide to do it there...

Can someone make this sticky?

Thanks,
Rick

PS - I had an unknown Patriot cut into line in front of me at the doctor's on Friday. The doc said that we both had the same surgery at the same time and I was doing way better than he was. They ordered my $1400 brace yesterday (Lucky me, I get to pay $374 out of pocket), so I should be pretty good to go on 1/18. I'm walking about 10 miles a week and spending 2 hours a week on the bike, so I'm getting there. I'll be slow, though.

If that date pans out, I think I might make the trip... That would be a three day weekend for me. Definitely have to investigate accommodations though...

sudden moves are not good even in a brace
so i recommend you find a toboggan just to get out there.
lets not RUIN all your great progress.

This being said from someone who
wiped out bad on crutches while hitting an icy patch. Ouch

Alright, so Wallace's Reservoir in Gloucester is where I'm going to have the Sabbit this year.

Parking is limited at the gate, but there's room for 4 or 5 cars there and more about 1/4 mile away at the West Gloucester commuter rail stop (plenty of free parking there).

I'd suggest people drop off their gear at the gate and then park and walk back.

The pond is like a 150 foot walk from the gate.

It's off Magnolia Ave, and I'll send a better map once I get to work during the week.

We'll start at 8:00 AM and go to 2:00 PM. I need to be back home by around 4:00 PM that day in Waltham (Jess has something planned...I'm guessing it's a concert).

I say we make a nice, easy $10 entry fee.

Sound good?

I'm just going to show up. Hopefully other people do too.
