New boat owner--Need Advice

HI Guys,

I am new to the website/forum and can't believe information in this space! wow. We have a new (used) boat owners (23' Angler walk around). We have been fishing cape cod bay (billingsgate primarily). We have been doing well...keepers every w/e...including a 42"er. I caught my first one a couple of weeks ago...29". A very, very exciting moment for me. Anyway...

Now that the warm, warm, hot weather has arrived...we know the fish have gone to deeper water. We had been around 25-30 feet/wire line/jigging-3 ozs./2.5-3.0kts) and it had been working for us.

This w/e when we tried to go to 40-50 ft. we couldn't get to bottom. Talked to a charter capt. and he told us to slow WAY down...as slow as we can go...

Any other advice? The season had been off to such a great start...I don't want it to end !!

help is appreciated...

thanks !

If you're trolling, try driving in a zig zag pattern... that will slow you down also.

I hear you there Kate!! you have to really be careful around those pots. however, i bet those lobstermen know what they're doing - traps probably means there's rocks and structure down there where lobsters (and bass!) hang out.

i also like to let my lines out far enough so that whatever you're trolling can get down deep

Ffor deep water you have to let more wire out!! Also go up to a 5oz Jig!! This should get you down there. You need a lot of wire out for 40 to 50 feet water. I say 300' at least

Good luck!
