EP's
I guess the reason I get boarded more each spring is because I'm just about the only one out ther..
I know they're just doing their job, but it's a nice sunny day, not another boat in sight , the next thing I know I'm being boarded. It's not bad enough I get that down in my gut feeling like this isn't right, but, the young buck standing above me back on their boat looking like he's about to open fire on me has me totally pissed off... Seriously thinking about strapping on my 45 next time to give them something to think about....
Could b this belongs in grumpy old farts forum, hey?

U must get something from them at the time of boarding saying that they boarded u on a such a date....usually they would just move on if date is within reason....

Good luck boarding me on my Kayak , but you do look sort of shady and hey they are bored with nobody else to harass. I was winter fishing for holdovers well up inside, bright sunny day, good fishing and don't I get met at the ramp by an EP in February of all times. I'm in my 16 foot john boat, no cooler to hide fish in and he wants to see all my safety gear and I don't have any clamp on lights and he writes me up for that. What an A-hole, really on a sunny day at 3pm, you think I need running lights for safety. I appealed and got it dismissed and they had to waste the same time I did, but I mixed in some business calls so I didn't have to take a day off from work.

This is 100% true. Questionable character for sure.

Does your incessant whining make you feel better? How about you just shut the hell up and suck it up? It's a fishing forum , so please just stop.

I got stopped coming back into New Bedford last Thursday. I have no issue with them but this guy never called/flashed his lights or gave any kind of indication he wanted me to stop. Took a while to figure out at 25 knots out every maneuver to set a collision course was his form of message for me to stop

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

Sounds like a great way to confuse someone so they won't have time to throw fish overboard

We've all probably seen questionable actions and activities on the water that should be reported but usually don't because without proof of those actions the offenders will walk.
When the EPO's are actually doing their jobs we hear complaints?
To paraphrase a Shakespeare line "Me doth think you protest too much".
Now if you exclude the Napoleon-complex individuals, the complaints usually come from individuals that might have a reason to NOT want to be stopped and boarded?
Not laying blame, but from my own personal experiences, people that are doing the wrong thing are the first to complain when the authorities show up to do their job.
It may be (in some instances) that the EPO either had a chip on his shoulder or had received a report of suspicious activity (which raises the question of how recent are the reports)?
Bottom line is that if you have done all the right things, the interruption should be minimal.
I still can't get over the citation for not having running lights on a kayak during the day? That is definitely a case of a big chip on a small block(head)!

a few years ago I kept my boat on the Thames River in New London- and had to wait for a draw bridge to open to get in (and out) of the marina. sometimes it was 30-45 minutes of waiting.... and it was right in front of the CG station. got boarded 4 times that year.... even after "being cleared" by all the previous guys who said I was all set and had nothing to worry about.
last guy jumped on board my boat while still underway like he was Tarzan or somethin'. eventually called the CO at the station to see why I was boarded so often- he had no explanation except that I was the 1st boat they saw.....

Maybe they're given a quota, and HAVE to board so many boats in order to get credit for a full work day?
(Kind of like the ticket quotas that the police used to deny for years.)

All he needed to do to prove to me he was doing his job, was to ask me if I kept any fish and see that I had all the "necessary" safety equipment. On a john boat without any permanent lights, I only would bring clamp on lights if I planned on fishing in the dark, fog or crappy weather. Since I never plan on any of that when winter fishing, I never carry clamp on lights, so as far as I'm concerned that was him just busting me for whatever he could write me up for.
