I hate braid

Terrible night out there,,, started out pretty snotty, boat got turned,,, line in prop for starters,,, in Chanel and didn't dear lift motor I'd be beached in a heart beat
Tie up new leader and hook 1

Marked plenty of fish all night but spent most of the time fixing gear.... I just can't see that stuff at night never mind the daytime...
I go to start a new drift pick one of the rods and wind driven f n line has managed to wrap snag every freak n thing on the boat,,, grrrrrrrrr

Reveres gear to slow the drift a little wind sends that stuff all over the f n place, next thing I know its wrappen around a real , an eye , a a a grrrrrrrrrrr

If the wind wasn't bad enough, old mr. Operator error me managed to put the two baits together between a couple drifts ... Tie up new leaders and hooks numbers 2 3 4 5 .... I lost freak n count...

Phew, I feel better now

Oh! And while I'm venting, why the f are there boats out there with f n headlights , WTF with that?

I walks in the door the wife's just getting up, " how'd it go out there?"
Just great thanks, I'm going to bed

I guess it's one of those things... I loved braid from day 1. If I had to use mono I'd hang myself. Like everything, it has it's issues.

Confucius ( and Mike) say... Old man shouldn't fish alone at night in wind with braid on boat

I'm not as down on it now that I've had some sleep :-) Joe

Two of you would have to hold me down to get my braid, fishing lighter gear and plastics demands the sensitivity of braid and while I have the occasional break off around ledge; I'd be trading in bites I'd never feel for that one or two lost fish.

Gup, I have been out here this week with reports of bones. Two trips and not a bite, a couple followers but no love. They like to troll crystal minnows down here but that is not for me.

I don't really like braid for shallow water or big game, no stretch = pulled hooks, no abrasion resistance = cutoff; I can't find the benefit unless you are going deep and need that minimal diameter and low stretch.. I get a big fish on and every head shake translates to the rod. Yep and the tangles you get is another thing. Then add in night, wind, and a little chaos oh god no not braid.

Had one (really good fisherman but misguided in his gear choice ) come out with me a bunch that insisted on using some sorta abu conventional spooled with braid in the dark, where my standard setup is all spinning gear & 15-17 lb test. The guy used to spend at least 1/3 of the night fixing gear, drove me nuts.

But I fish light leaders, small hooks, light line, anything to give me an edge and that just doesn't mix well with braid. If you are going heavier and deeper water you can torque a fish right up.

Deep water, different story - love my 30 lb braid for bottom fishing.
If you want to get 600 yards of 150 lb backing on a stand up reel, different story, but you use a topshot of mono. JHMO

Jon

There's a limit on these?

I have no problem with fishing mono with eels from the boat. I actually prefer the stretch. You should try a rod with it. I bet you like it much better. Don't get too disgusted I want to join you some night after labor day.
