i was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction. im new to the board, and i've carved my own plugs, you know , basic basswood and spray paint---nothing like you guys do. some of the plugs on this board are AWESOME. .what do you guys recommend for someone just getting started, materials-wise?i could eventually find out myself but i would end up buying things i wouldnt need. i'm looking to start out with saltwater plugs, topwater, etc. where's the best place to get materials north of boston? how about the best lathe? any good books on the subject you recommend?--so many questions!! looking at all these insane plugs--i got bit by the bug! cant wait to get started--thanks for the help- keep those plug pix coming!

I would take a walk around wood workers and I would get a set of safty glasses and reporator and see what lathes they have on sale jet usually.
I would get a good water stone 1200 grit and sorby chizels
this will make life easy for ya and then You can build up from there.
