Start of Season

I asked this question on another board, and did not receive much of a response. Has the season in RI begun earlier this year than last? If yes, does this usually mean that fishing everywhere may be early as well? I know this is wishful thinking, but I'd love to get an extra week or two up in Maine.

RE:Start of Season

MartyK, the season is a little earlier than normal this year but within the norm of the last few... Last year, things started to warm up the first week of April, the year before started at this time as well. I think we can be pretty positive about this upcoming season.
You live in Mass but do all of your fishing in Maine?

RE:Start of Season

John, I fish in Maine (Ogunquit) because my wife and I have a summer home there. I'm fortunate enough to have five weeks vacation every year so I take off every Friday from Memorial Day through the end of September and fish all day. Then I do about six hours on Saturday and Sunday. For the sake of the marriage, I stay in Ogunquit. This way my wife can hang out on the beach and I can be right in front of her on the water.

Anytime you can chase linesiders and maintain the blessings of wife - things are good! Marty, can you get out a little before and after the Maine season or would that jeopardize your good fortune? There is alot of good fishing wrapping around each side of the Maine season...

I spend some time up in Camp Ellis (on the coast just south of Old Orchard), we'll have to hook-up this summer...

RE:Start of Season

I agree with you, John. I kick myself every October that I don't bring at least one rod home and fish in Plymouth or RI for a few weeks. This year I will. In terms of your vacation near OOB, just let me know a few weeks in advance. Hopefully we can hook up.
