Tica taurus spinning reel

Looking for a new spinning reel for a 9' lamiglas rod (1-3oz lure weight ). I'm interested to hear if anyone on this site has any info good or bad on the tica taurus. Thanks!-Mike

Chief,

I'm not a real fan of the Tica reels.

For the money, you're better off with Penn.

I've gone thru 2 Tica's in 2 seasons. My latest and last Taurus has now lost its anti-reverse and I can feel the gears going. I have babied this reel making sure not to strain it hoisting fish

They are super smooth....for a while.

Plastic and graphite housings are cheap and the bail spring is pretty pliable too
Get something else

Junk

OK, maybe junk is a little strong, but if you use it in big water and/or on big fish, you'll burn it out in a single season. The cheaper Ticas are decent buys for the money, but only on schoolie tackle.

Better buy is a Stradic 6000 or 8000 at a little more than half the price of the Taurus. They now have all metal housings and are just as smooth as the Taurus with only half the bearings. The 8000 has the same capacity as the bigger Taurus. Worth the trip to M&Ds.

I have a libra and 2 camrys. I agree with Mike P that they are fine for schoolies because that is all that I have caught with mine. I have had no problems but I don't fish them hard. I leave the hard stuff to my nautil and 706z.
