Nebe or Eben on CBS Sunday Morning 2/6
ART: A Block Island treasure hunt
Since 2012, visitors have scoured Block Island, off the coast of Rhode Island, in search of hidden treasure: hand-blown glass orbs. Correspondent Martha Teichner talks to glass artists Eben Horton and Jennifer Nauck, who create the delicate prizes, and joins other "orbivores" (orb hunters) on the prowl.

How many of our members have found one of the orbs?
I spend a lot of time on island but have never found one. I can spot a bass dimpling the water surface 50 yards away, or a plug in the wrack line at 100 paces but can't seem to find an orb. I think I have tunnel vision.
That said this hide and seek program is huge on the island. Well done Jen and Eben!

I'm at my folks house in Yarmouth now, so I'm hoping to watch it. Ironically, in cleaning out my folks house, yesterday down in the basement I found two such glass orbs, one a dark blue, the other sea foam green. Not sure of the age or value, but my father had them wrapped and hidden away.

The only person I know who has found one is Chuck Duval.
My wife, daughter, and I went on a couple of hunts last year. I watched today's episode on Sunday morning and seeing what the expert hunter was doing correlates with what I have read to be recommended. Searching along paths moving foliage with a walking stick. It must be like fishing, there is a skill and a pattern to identifying holds, as that orbivore guy had it dialed in.
I love the orb project and feel it is an interactive art installation at a scale that transcends what is normally considered interactive public art. I feel it is more honest/genuine than the work Banksy. I have always found more appeal to art that is widely accessible to everyone. I also feel the nature of it in its totality is absolutely magnificent, and such and incredible gift. Thank you Eben and Jenn.
The only thing a disagree with is that the project connects people with nature. I feel that it definitely puts people in nature, but if you ever spot someone looking for orbs they are most often not smelling the roses. They are on a mission, and sometimes will almost walk into you on the trail as they are completely unaware of anything but the object of their hunt. These orbs are as powerful as cell phones. Complete and absolute mind control. Well played Eben and Jenn.

It was awesome. I spend some time on the Island every year and have never found an orb. Of course, I'm looking for Bass.

Those were some very thoughtful words. Thank you.
I agree with you about people not connecting with nature and while some people are “orbsessed” I have seen plenty of people who walk slow enough to look down, look up and look all around and can process what is all around them.

I have it on good authority that one of Nebe’s earlier fancy orbs is on display in a house in Oxford, UK next to the lady of the house’s photos of her younger son when he was a Gurkha in the British Army.

Nice. A former special forces guy who now lives north of the attic circle has one in his one room cabin up there.

My wife found one in 6/17 in the Enchanted Forest. We had been looking for years mostly when we walked on the beach. She was beyond excited. We decided to look on the trails which we had never been on but went on them to hunt for orbs. The orb hunt definitely took us to parts of the island we had never been and my wife’s family has had a house there since the 70’s.
