Low 40s? I would have guessed 29 to 32 pounds. how many really big fish have any of you acually seen? there is a huge difference between a 40lb bass and a 31lb bass. But congrats, nice fish but not close to a 40 !

Well dave, not everyone is an expert who has caught and seen many large bass, and only a few were even aware of the size of Piemma. If it had been Flaptail holding that fish , and the angle was better with the fish displayed to show the girth, I would have gotten it within a pound or 2 I bet. But you got to see it in 3 dimensions, HUGE difference there seeing it in person. Hard to tell how long the fish is from that shot. A picture on the computer is completely different than in person and I think you know that. Maybe that was Paul's point of the thread.

I would have guessed 40 but since I saw you post on another site that it was in the 30s,,,,I knew better!
Awesome fish and informative post, almost everyone added over ten pounds to the fish!

Not only are they "offf, but they're convinced they're not off."
"Look at the belly on that fish....has to be at least 40!"
It takes catching quite a few fish to be able to get reasonably accurate, and even then knowlegable folks can be off by 15% very frequently.
I had it at 37 pounds before I saw the answer.

Indeed. This fish amazed me. i really thought, at first, it was high 30s. When I got it in the boat I knew it wasn't but it just looked BIG. I think the real difference was that it had a smallish head, big belly but no shoulders.

I thought it looked like a forty but had the head of a twenty. I didn't know if it was gonna be high or low, but figured it was deceiving.

No, no, no. we’re 30… 30, three zero.

First off, how tall are you?
Lokks can be decieving, I am 6'6" 260 lbs and when I hold a 30 pounder everyone thinks it's a 15.
On the other hand when Numbskull holds a 30 pounder it looks like a 60. ( shrimp)
Tough call unlees you have something to gauge it by.
Nice fish non-the -less!
