I agree with the over build.
I also put a full foundation and had to add a 10" thick wall in the back due to the slope of the land. Lots of people said just go with a floating slab, but in my town over 800 SQ Ft needs a foundation.

Also, 2X6 walls are required if you are over 10'. (or so I was told)
I figure it is good for future use anyway.

I ended up with 1 support in the middle of the beam due to the 40' length. I could have gotten away with a steal beam or go to "I" joists to cover the 28' span. (but would have increased the cost by 4K)

My 2nd floor has a full 8' head height for about 24' of the width.
It also left me space above that for light storage

My favorite of all was the ladder in the tractor bucket. Pump jacks only would reach 24' With the slope of the land I was about 3' short.

I just got the house apprased but have not seen the result. Garage cost me 31K in materials & foundation.
Labor cost me lots of promised fishing trips.
