Pat Augustine from NY was right behind. He repeatedly said that the stcoks are not being overfished- despite multiple instnces and figures indicating that they are....

the MOST IMPORTANT item that came out of this meeting was the acceptance of the new stock assessment figures that show the downward trend in bass numbers/recruitment. This is the data set to be used for future decison-making in the upcoming year- it would seem that more conservative catch limits are coming in 2015.

its important that all of us stay informed and keep our states' ASMFC delegates infromed of what we want this fishery to be.... we've got little momentum here- lets not lose it. could be the first time in 15 years some meaningful change could come about
The stock assessment said that they are not overfished and that overfishing is not occurring, so what would you expect them to do? If you want the fish managed for anything other than MSY then you need to write to your congressman, because under the current version of the MSA they are legally required to manage the stock for MSY.

When they predict that overfishing is going to occur, they should act to prevent overfishing from occurring. But the spirit of your post is pretty much spot on: the law needs to be changed.

No, no, no. we’re 30… 30, three zero.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but that is exactly what they are doing. The board is going to put together an addendum to prevent overfishing from occurring in 2015.

Which can also be read as, "Get your overfishing of SB in during the 2014 season as there is a chance they might do something to try and prevent it in 2015. Or not."
