Alright, so Wallace's Reservoir in Gloucester is where I'm going to have the Sabbit this year.

Parking is limited at the gate, but there's room for 4 or 5 cars there and more about 1/4 mile away at the West Gloucester commuter rail stop (plenty of free parking there).

I'd suggest people drop off their gear at the gate and then park and walk back.

The pond is like a 150 foot walk from the gate.

It's off Magnolia Ave, and I'll send a better map once I get to work during the week.

We'll start at 8:00 AM and go to 2:00 PM. I need to be back home by around 4:00 PM that day in Waltham (Jess has something planned...I'm guessing it's a concert).

I say we make a nice, easy $10 entry fee.

Sound good?

I'm just going to show up. Hopefully other people do too.

Better hope for some good temps, Rick! Thanks for doing the legwork. I'm in if weather permits.

Has your buddy ice fished that pond before? I know there's a pond in that area that's often used for ice hockey (Spinn might know it). Not sure if it's Wallace, might be one of the Banjos. People might not look favorably on a pile of holes in their rink...

What is SABBIT and how do I sign up? Icefishing? I've got a rod, but nothing else. What kind of gear should I bring?

Sabbit

AKA Second Annual Bomba Bros Ice Tourney (SABBIT) or Sixth I believe in this case.....

See also FABBIT, First, Fourth, Fifth Annual Bomba Bros Ice Tourney.... TABBIT was the Third.... That should give you enough to load up the search function.

This is the sixth. Thanks, Ross.

We usually have it in Central Mass and it's usually a big production.

I thought that I'd have a more low-key version seeing as my knee is on the mend.

I'll throw the rules up there with a map during the week.

yes. it's ice fishing.

And here I thought the reasoning was to relocate to an area where it wasn't circled on the local police calendar........yet.

Nonono,
No police, family friendly fun, this time.

I even bought it closer to the North Shore guys and am trying to pressure TTB to join us...

If anybody needs a ride from my neck of the woods, I'll also offer my designated driving services, to boot.

Kevin,
I think I know the one that you're talking about. Scott says that this is not the one (I think you can see it from Banjo Rd. or Ln. or whatever that street's name is).
Thanks,

Rick

Wallace Pond

I'm pretty familiar with that area and can't figure out where your planning to access Wallace pond. What about Lilly pond. It's right on the tracks and can hold 6 or more cars if your organized.

If anybody has any other questions, PM me. If not, see you there.

Just found out that Jess got me Pixies tix for that night, so I'll be running out of Gloucester just after we finish.

I'm really just going to see whoever shows up and have some fun.

Later,
Rick

Ice should be no problem....spent the day on one of the local ponds and there was a good 6-8 inches.....and it's just going to get added too looking at the temps the next week or so

Chris, I have adopted the "I never drink when I'm fishing rule." I learned it from watching you, dad.

Oh boy, I think I'm in trouble.

Any cheap & safe hotels up there for a kid & dog?

Is it a bad idea to bring a dog ice fishing?

Depends on the dog...

There are some hotels/motels along Atlantic road in Glostah that may be affordable off season. Anything along rte 128 from peabody on up would be convenient. Don't know about pet friendly on any of these though.

The Vista Motel is pet friendly. They only have efficiencies this time of year though. Might be more than you want to spend.

I normally send people to the Cape Ann Motor Inn, but I don't know if they're pet friendly.

Maybe PM spinn? He may have a better idea.

So, Kershaw is going to drill some holes on Thursday to check the thickness of the ice on the pond. He's guessing that there was a good 8 inches before Saturday.

I'll post if there are issues Thursday PM.

Hopefully there's not a problem. If I need to cancel, I can't book out, as I'm tied up all of February closing on the house (2/25).

I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks,
Rick

Cancelling SABBIT Due to Ice

Hi Guys,
Scott was at the pond today.

Ice looks BAD! He was afraid to walk on it.

I'm cancelling the event.

Like I said, hopefully people didn't get stuck with rooms.

I'm going to be pretty much unavailable for the rest of the year.

PM me with any concerns.

Thanks and Sorry,
Rick
