Great point Larry. Now that was a STORM!!! We had 52" of snow and 14' drifts. Town used a road grader with a 12' V-plow to open my road after 6 days. Guy down the road had a snow machine and made runs to town for everyone to get beer, cigs (we all smoked back then) and eggs. We finally got out after a week.

I was in Providence at 4:30 in the afternoon the day the storm started. I was working for IBM and assigned to Spiedel. Had a Ford F250 4WD and actually made it home but it took 7 hours to go 30 miles. The highways were clogged with stuck vehicles but I got in back of a plow who went up the MEDIAN STRIP on 95N. Got to 295 and headed up the off ramp as the on ramp was full of stuck cars.

Wild memories!!

No boat, back in the suds.

that's what i "thought" we were getting TDF
but it never happened... 4"-10" drifts
it was rediculously cold however, like a cold sand paper
the dog would stick it's head out the door
and yank it back as if to say "NO F-ING way dude

Blizzard of 78 I worked until late morning then headed home. I lived in Worcester at the time and was driving a Datsun B210. I was 25 years old , about 210 pounds , and very strong to say the least. On my way home in the snow I got stuck several times. I simply got out of the car , lifted up the rear end out of the ruts and then continued on my way. No exaggeration , I was strong as an ox in those days.
After the storm the roads in Worcester were pretty well plowed but other areas were paralyzed. My girlfriend was in Milford and as young love is a powerful force I hopped in my car to go get her. The driving ban was on and the fine was $1000. I drovee up 290 in Worcester and ran into a sudden wall of snow blocking the road. I got off and followed Rt 20 a while and got back on again. Made it to 495 somewhere in Northboro and headed south east to Milford. On the way I ran into 3 snow plows coming down 495 in the wrong direction! They were 3 abreast and heading right at me. I pulled way over and stopped and as they went by I was plowed in. I shoveled myself out and kept going. When I got to Milford the exit was blocked but some front end loaders were working on it so I sat and waited until the exit ramp was opened. I had my choice of two ways to get from there to her house and made up my mind to take the main road which was sure to be plowed. Well on the way I spaced out and simply went the way I always went , which was back roads. I got there no problem but found out that the National Guard was on the main road I hadn't taken and was giving out the $1000 tickets to anyone they caught out driving!

We went back to Worcester like there was no problem at all. Still have no idea why the highways to Milford were blocked but from Milford to Worcester were wide open.

My girlfriend made sure I was well rewarded for my heroic efforts to rescue her and about two weeks later she sent me a Valentines card showing Mighty Mouse flying away with his girlfriend in his arms rescuing the damsel in distress!
