Trust me Don. They don't know diddly. Malaysia isn't prepared to handle anything like this.
The NTSB has just joined so all the speculation will soon go away and within a week we will hear hard facts.
If there is fowl play I guarantee I will hear something. It's just going to be a while. I flew over that part of the world and radar coverage is spotty at best.

6 P.M. national news interviews are now saying that someone wanted the plane to disappear.

The guy flying the plane wanted to end it all , or the person to his right .

"It was light from Venus relecting off of some swamp gas"....(Men in Black)
Could be another version of "Snakes on a Plane" scenario?
(Two guys that were seeking asylum were "offed" by those looking for them, and the pilot/co pilot were blackmailed into causing the plane to "dissappear".
Happens all the time on tv.

Heres my hunch.. There was a hijacking attempt. The two hijackers gained access into the cockpit and the plane changed course.. passengers, aware of what happened on 9/11, entered the cockpit and a struggle ensued.. The hijackers put the plane into a nose dive and the plane hit the water like a gannet ( as Bigfish suggested).. The nose of the plane exploded, and water filled the plane quickly, the wings were full of fuel and the plane simply sank to the bottom, trapping its contents inside, thus... the lack of wreckage. All that said, there is wreckage floating around out there.. it just has not been seen yet.

Getting it off the ground with full fuel and a heavy load of explosives could be a problem, if it was hidden at a small, remote field somewhere. You'd need about 5000' of runway (maybe more if it's a grass field) and a pilot experienced in short field max weight take-offs. Taking off is a bit more complicated than hijacking a plane and turning it around. If was going to be turned into a flying bomb, odds are the original pilot would refuse to take off, even at gunpoint. Unless he was in on whatever plot was hatched, of course.

Getting it off the ground with a small nuke could be scary, and with no load and a lot of fuel that aircraft could likely fly for a while.
I'd wager the military is watching this closely.

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion yet. Evidence is increasingly pointing towards not only a hijacking, the aircraft the air for 7 hours after they lost contact and maneuvers to avoid detection.

I wouldn't think an airliner would be the best way to transport gold.

I would like to see the cargo manifest. If there was gold in that plane, I'd sigh a big sigh if releaf as the agenda would be known. I worry that someone might use this jet to carry a serious payload somewhere and pull another 9-11 type attack.

European press... Do you read Polish? Looking for stories in English.
No one has said anything about the cargo.....have they?
I think plane is on the ground, in one piece, in a Russian state. Not sure what they would have done about passengers. They wouldn't last long if someone lowered oxygen levels by overriding controls. Crew has their own oxygen supply. At least on American carriers.
But someone, or something on that plane was the target, IMHO. The plane itself could have been the target, but I don't think so. I also think our two naval assets already in the Indian Ocean are not there with the search as their primary mission. I would expect a larger presence soon.

Focus appears to be on the pilot now. He may have started to turn off communication equipment before signing off from KL ATC.
