boat building at Essex Boat Museum
My nephew Jarrod, during school vacation, spent the week at the Essex Boat museum, building what looks to be about a twenty foot dory, along with several other kids his age. His mother is great at finding things for him to do and keep busy at. I am sure it cost quite a bit for the one-week course. My sister-in-law posted a pic on facebook with Jarrod sitting in the middle of the dory, and the boat looked awrsome. I think its great these programs exist. I am so jealous.

I agree 100%. The wooden Boat school in Maine (On Eggemoggin Reach, Brooklyn, ME) has several amazing course for building dories of all types. I want to build a double ended rowing dory next winter... I just need to figure out where i can find the space

That is great..he will surely benefit from that experience. Good of his mom to do that.
Another great one is the Landing School they build the Flyfisher 22 nice boat... tuition is way high.

Lowell's Boat Shop in Amesbury has a night course in building traditional wood plank boats. It runs about six weeks and they start a couple of times a year. Also as a member they have open rowing on Sundays in the Merrimack River. I have yet to find the time to take the course but someday soon.

I got to see the Rmarsh vessel this weekend. Beautiful lines on the boat and it seemed to navigate the waters well. Very impressive effort!

Thanks Sea Dangles...was that possibly you in the Onslow Bay!?
I headed west to little Compton , sakonet river and Newport, had a great day, went about 40 miles on 4 gallons of gas. |

Google the name Harold Burnham
He has a barn right next to the Essex Shipbuild museum. He is a very good friend of mine from school. Can build you a big awesome wooden boat in the blink of an eye for ya. Cuts his own logs, you name it.......don't look for fancy teak and mahogahy, just honest to godness strong working sloops and schooners.....white oak, heavy stuff..
His last project was for himself. A Pinky schooner named Ardelle.

Agree..... Got a chance to climb aboard one at the boat show, amazing craftsmanship and finish.
I have to admit being biased towards wooden boats.
