Don't get me started but I am on one of the advisory councils that got us here (GOM-RAP). What we recommend and vote for means nothing to the government. We are not even allowed to discuss the "real issues", we are told to stick to the (irrelevant) agenda. If we want to deviate from the agenda we have to file a motion to add a item to the next agenda. Tom Depersia has been trying to add an item to the "next" agenda for 16 years!
They (NOAA, NEFMC, GARFO, etc.) reject all we say anyway and then do what they want (that is to give the draggers what they want).
The "fishery management process" is a sham!
I start every meeting I go to by suggesting we remove the draggers from the water and "problems solved". I'm told to shut up every time!

One might think that you would learn by now that your total opposition to the commercial fishery is a recipe for getting you remarks completely ignored.

No offense cpt, but if what you are saying is true its time to Learn how to politic better or take this on a public venue and do some rabble rousing, or is it that you would prefer to take the salted ride and say your are part of this?

Really the move is up to you and with no disrespect your comment about is very disappointing...

If you really do begin every meeting with that "suggestion" I would respectfully ask that you remove yourself from whatever advisory board you currently sit on.
If that's the type of representation the recreational and charter fisherman are getting at these meetings, it's no wonder no compromise was achieved and rec anglers are now closed out of a fishery we've enjoyed for hundreds of years.

The panel he's referring to is the GOM-RAP aka the Gulf of Maine - Recreational Advisory Panel. The voice of the recreational fisherman.

That is the most impactful method, right?

Nothing to do with that.
It's just that the recs can't justify targeting ANY cod without killing too many. If we only target haddock then we will kill too many cod (according to their "mad scientist numbers") if we target too many haddock. SO, we spent the last two meetings arguing/discussing how we can catch haddock without killing too many cod.......JC
