whale watch boats break the law every day.....suppose to stay a hundred yards from humpbacks...as U notice they R only a few yards away.....LOL...
With right whales (an endangered species) it is Federal LAW to stay 500yds distant, with humpbacks (not endangered) 100yds is only a recommendation not law!
We approached to approx 100ft and shut down everything, the curiosity of the whales brought them boatside. We were actually stuck there for 45 min until they cleared far enough away to restart engine and slowly motor out of the area.
