Because he has no defense, and they know he did something wrong. So the administration is trying their damnedest to limit anyone with direct, first-hand information that is damaging from testifying. Won’t happen, it would only add more evidence to what was going on and further substantiation of the testimony they already have. The GOP is damned if they do and damned if they don’t. They know witness testimony will further the case for impeachment and if they don’t proceed then it’s an admission there is much to hide.
