Match the right tool to the right application.

In places where you have shallow, gently sloping beaches, you might want to have a heaver that reaches the structure (or currents) and the fish. 12 to 14+ feet is not uncommon down in places like the Outer Banks of NC.

Up here, maybe something in the 9-10 foot range is more suitable. On the Outer Beaches of the Cape, 9 foot is better, especially if you're fishing at night - you don't need to cast over the fish. In rocky spots in Rhody, I like a 10 footer b/c you get a bit more control over a fish, which helps when you're landing in a rock pile.

But these are just my preferences...
