Morning News?
Hey, anyone catch the morning news today? Some guy named Patrick took hostages at Fairfield University last night in CT........
Now, I don't want to start a whole big hoopla or anything, just thought it was kind of interesting.
Happy Hump Day everyone

Just so there is no nasty grams or confusion, it wasn't "OUR" former friend involved . The news said it was a Fairfield University Student that had taken hostages - fortunately the people were released....
Honey - why did you have to mention that name - your bannished for 20 minutes - Red - leave her alone (just kiddin' )
Here is the news link...

Hey!!!
Twenty minutes from when you posted or twenty minutes from when I read your reply, Mr. Meanie? (actually it was a former student and Liam was the one that pointed out the story to me!)

I've been too busy to do much, plus I'm trying to get the new company page designed and up, but I thought I better put my 2 cents in.

Okay, shifting gears to something more relevant:
the Providence Journal today has a page 1 story about the commercial fishing license issue:
"Tonight, state officials are unveiling thier first major effort to overhaul the state's commercial fishing laws and start a process they hope will lead to more flounder and lobsters and to a better livelihood for local fishermen.
...If passed, new commercial fishing licenses would be issued only for specific species, and only if those species are sufficiently abundant to support additional fishermen. Those already holding lecenses would not be affected."
I know most members here are recreational fishers, but how to you weigh in on this?

Bloo - in new haven there is a fair haven but yes I would rather be 20 minutes from where GB is - Cuttyhunk of course. Fair Haven ain't the best of neighborhoods. When I'm in new haven area usually fish meigs point rip @ hammo or milfords' gulf beach, or w. haven sandbar even pennfield. But I usually travel the extra hour or hours to RI or the Cape when going hardcore! Saltheart thanks for coming to new havens defense - yes there was a mighty big fish that came out of new haven harbor, i believe it's hangin' in dees tackle shop? Anthony and GB - thank you for the recommendations on the schoolie pole - will look into it but "definitely" don't need another reel - well maybe just one? John, yeah I skated with those guys get Liam skating @ age 3 - I'll come down and skate with him! I'm a simple man, if I ain't with wife and baby - I'm playing hockey or fishing. Funny how it all really works, it's how your brought up by your family and what they do. My great grandfather played ice hockey and fished, my grandfather the same, my father the same, 2 older brothers the same, did I have a choice? Soooo GLAD that I too play hockey and fish, my dad taught me everything I know - and we both still learn more about each sport every day, you're never too old to learn and try new things. did my dad force me into either sport - no, told me i could stop any time. My daughter Gwen will fish and play hockey (she could stop at any time), the usa women beat germany 10 - 0 yesterday. looking forward to the men's competition, usa has a good of chance as any team, my prediction is it will between them and canada....

Hi the Betterhalf, those changes may not all be for the best, some of the propasals
no more multi purpose license
limited entry in some fisheries
closed entry in others
proposed for shellfishing, no commercial license if you don.t dig so mant days a year/////
another, if you don.t make at least half your income by shellfishing---no license
After 42 years of shellfishing they may possibly just take it away from me /// somethings seriously wrong!!!!
that leaves me with one option// going back to commercial rod and reel, and if enough are forced into or out of fisheries things will change//but will they be for the better/////////
I.ve seen many, many times where they have made political, management, or enforcement decisions and they have really screwed up////////////////////////////////////

ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE !!!

Clammer - Are you going to the meetings? If you are not, maybe you should.
I sat in one a while back, specifically talking about the shellfish -v- this -v- that and there were several possible paths, like:
Full license & apprentice / senior (you got a little while before that )
Existing lic holders having much less impact than new entry, both from other species or from new users...
Bunch of stuff. You should go to the website and read what has been passed so far...

now in seriousness.......
Iam looking for any thoughts you may have (I know many of you live in the vicinity)
as we speak the hubby is at a meeting with his boss about the future of the company. We MAY make a move(of course we have mixed emotions still) but we may just go for it! so my question is....if you had any suggestions on an area from R.I. to the Cape what would be a quiet area but still affordable????? We just dont know where to start looking if we decide to do this!!!!!
Thanks!!!

Jenn,
I like my area in NW RI, roural yet close to civilization. We get almost the most snow in the state, but not really enough to sled. 20 minutes from the airport or Providence, but 56 miles from Weekapaug and 75 miles to the east end of the Ditch.
