I got a little too drunk one night and tried to mount a transducer.
The electric shock was a real kick in the nuts, if you know what I mean.

No speed wheel on my 188c transducer. Gets speed reading thru GPS.
Probably need a diff. transducer to go thru hull though.

If your set on the transom mount ducer, do what Roger said. In the past, I've had problems at hi speed with those, but you may not.I put a ducer in that you mount in the bilge but not thru the hull. It's an Airmar P79 and it works real well for me, garmin has them and you might even be able to swap it. Just a thought.

I mounted it on the transom, pretty much where ff's arrow points, inboard of the first step, as mr s. suggested.
I went with the transom mount so I could get temp. As stated earlier, the 188c gets speed from the gps.
I thought about the shoot through hull method, and researched it, but decided on the transom mount so I can get temps. I am not that concerned about readings at running speed...
Thanks for everybody's input.
