Me too actually, in today’s paper there is mention of him nabbing some kids taking short fluke off the jetty. IMO he was forgiving with the amount of the fine...
http://www.mvtimes.com/news/07142005/gone_fishin.html Also he was at the dock watching over things when the comm guys pulled in..
The guy is doing his job!
I do think however that he is asked to enforce some bonehead laws. The 10.5 in scup law with an Aug 31 rec season closure just goes to show you how out of touch the DMF is when it comes to the fish. It was just a year or two ago when the rec limit was 100+ I think per man. Now there is a seasonal closure? IMO if they knew what they were really doing, it should NEVER have to come to such draconian measures as seasonal closures and big size limits. Herring, bunker, cod, Atlantic halibut, winter flounder and our beloved striped bass are all solid examples of where the DMF has opted for greed to the point of near extinction instead of throttling the comm and rec industries to sustainable limits.
That said, my hat is off to the DMF guy who IS indeed doing his job.
