04 F150 SCAB 4x4 5.4L 305HP V8, 3.73 gears: 34,000 - 80% HWY miles in past 13 months

12-13 around town, 15 hwy, average 13-14 mpg.

Previous I had a 03 Silverado ExtCab z71 with the 4.8 and 3.43 gears which I was able to get an average of 17-18 mpg mixed driving and could push over 20mpg trip averages on highway by using built in fuel computer (need steering wheel controls for instantaneous fuel economy). Was relatively speaking - pretty good on gas for a V8 Full Size.

The fuel computer was not an option on my F150 XLT so I just bought a scanguage (http://www.scanguage.com) that was delivered Saturday. In two days of playing with the GPH/MPG settings I am bringing my average so far up to 16MPG. Should take ten tanks of gas or less to recoup cost of unit but ten tanks for me is two months and after that it starts directly saving me some coin.

The little computer that tell's all, as in instantaneous MPG, can add two-four MPG when used to keep optimal speed settings. It is interesting how a very slight lift of the foot at 60 mph will go from one MPG to something 30% higher and still (barely) maintain the same speed.... I never believed it at first but ran several compare tests tanks by not paying attention to the fuel comp and paying attention to the fuel comp and it was right on the money with what my tank fillups was saying. Learning further how to drive with the computer does add MPG...

John I too did the math,I would up fill my truck make a fishing run to the Canal come back and top off again, then divide the amout of gallons by the mileage & it was dead on.
I have always been one for manual trany's(better fuel eco) but my new ride came w/ five spd. auto which I now love and would be hard pressed to going back to manual,If IM light on the peddel and cruise between 68-72 w/ no A/C or no windshield defogger on IM right on the money.

Plus I also bought a K&N air filter, right out of the box it will increase my horse power 5-7% and increase's my fuel economy by 1-3 miles guaranteed! Not to mention this thing is also good for a Million miles!!!It's a no brainer to get this w/ the price of fuel these days and that you never have to change it.
