Anthony - Tattoo is right. This time of year I don't think it makes a difference. Those fish were easily caught in plug distance from shore. We weren't more than 100 feet out. Fact of the matter is that the 30' ledge where the fish were more prominent was still only 60 feet or so from the furthest point you could (maybe) walk out to. Not exactly a place I would consider hauling live herring to from shore because of how far it appeared to be from paths or road & parking but it was certainly close.

We also fished the ledge more than the inshore side. It's entirely possible the fishing was better in tight to but just didn't want to put the boat too close to the rocks...

Neither of us had fished this spot before from shore or from boat. We decided on it due to several factors: where the wind was coming from, what the current was doing, all of the structure you could possibly ask for, deep ledge REAL close to shore - plus it just smelled "Fishy"
