yeah - pure luck... oke:
He produced it on cue - one shoot, one take.
Everything aside - you could follow a lot of guys around for three years and not get a better fish.

Joe, I think your taking that out of context.....Its not often that a 40lb fish is caught, let alone the last 5 minutes of a television shoot! Steve even told me he very surprised. But if someone can do it , it would certainly be steve !No doubt the skill was there! No one in the universe can catch a 40 on cue, no one, I think it worked out great! Made for a great show.Steve is the best sluggo fisherman there is, they certainly work! get ready for loads of orders!

Steve usually has 8 to 12 rigged slugs with him each time he goes.If no bluefish, I see him average about 2 per night seems there good for maybe 3 fish each. When they get tore up he will save the hooks and weights and toss the used slug out. So its hard to say how many he uses in a whole season. Needless to say when the blues are thick they dont last and you move in a hurry.Of course you dont slam the fish everynight so you save that way.

Joe,
Greatly appreciated the preview you provided, prior to the show airing.
Too bad they cut Steve's segment short, to make room for the salmon dinks.
